If I'd left work Friday night 2 seconds earlier, I'd either be in hospital or the morgue right now.
I left the car park and pulled up at the first set of lights outside work. I'm in a side street off Bourke St down Docklands. The lights go green and because the engine is still not up to temp, I take off sedately. All of a sudden I catch movement out of the corner of my eye and jam on the brakes. Woosh, a commodore goes through the red light at 60K's. I lean on the horn and the commodores brake lights come on after he'd gone through the intersection. When I arrive home, I change my underpants.

Also lucky you didn't get creamed up the rear.
Fortunately, there was no-one behind me. Needless to say, I expressed my opinion of the drivers driving ability with a few "oh bothers" and "oh golly gosh" and "dear me, I appear to have had a close call". And I told him to get as well

I agree Benny - definitely should be a much harsher penalty. If I'm first at the lights I check both ways before moving off on the green light in case some bozo is about to spear into me. That was a habit bourne from riding motorcycles in Sydney traffic.
Yeah I do that too Damien, some people are really inconsiderate. A mate got flipped off his bike (he was doing the speed limit) and someone didn't stop at a stop sign, he flipped over the bonnet and had to spend a couple of weeks in hospital... if he was any further in front who knows what would've happened.

I just think its hilarious that double demerits don't apply to running a red light (correct me if I'm wrong, but the ad campaign says 'speeding, drink driving, and not wearing a seat belt').
So on those long weekends, you NSW'ers will get 6 points for doing 5kph over the limit, and only 3 points for running a red light.

I disagree on the Australian laws about running reds. You loose 3 or 4 points for endangering the life of other people.
In some other countries it's an instant loss of licence.
But their not speeding or making lots of noise that wakes up neighbours and devalues houses so its all safe, didn't you know that
I agree there should be lots more red light cameras, loss of license and even having to do community service like 200 hours worth and/or even having your car impounded. Do it 3 times and you loose your car.
Do a stationary burnout for 10 seconds and you can loose your car on the 3rd go, doesn't make any sense.

Yeah you guys are right, the joke of it all is that we have more accidents at intersections and on country roads than anywhere else yet these seem to be ignored so we can catch people driving a tiny bit over the speed limit - and we have the nerve to say they are endangering lives! I've seen some close calls at intersections and it gives you the shivers how close some of them are because some idiot is not looking where they are going.
And hey Alan, if you'd left work earlier you may have got to the lights before they went red and you would have been through easier, I would have worried mroe about leaving work later! Use it as justification to leave your work early!
