Good onya Miles ...........that was what it was like for me. Nothing all week, then demolish a 1L Jim Beam on a Friday night, and IF there was any left in the house on Monday night.......down the hatch it went.

Don and Mark,
I too have Type II diabetes and have spent some years working out an effective pharmaceutical approach that results in improvements over time rather than the more normal steady deterioration.
I've spent a week in hospital having 4 hourly blood tests because the Doctors could not believe that I was symptom free, had perfect blood sugar and insulin levels when I had clearly had full on type II diabetes with all the tests from the past to prove it. They were seriously surprised and have tried the approach successfully on quite a few other patients.
If either of you are interested or anyone else I would be happy to start a thread in off topic/email/telephone or whatever.
Don, congratulations, if you can follow Neil's inspirational example 20 years from now you'll still be able to make a ewe turn without worrying even when the booze bus is in sight. As for making its eyes pop I've heard there are special pills or so these emails keep telling me.

Roger, I do not have Type II but my sister does, and would be interested. If you are not putting up information in off-topic here, I would very much appreciate a PM, or I can offer you a private web address where it can be posted for those who are interested or told.

Yes Roger, VERY interested, either by off-topic, so others who may not wish their condition made public can benefit from your experience(s), or by PM if you prefer.....or BOTH!

Hey Don, thats good to hear. Recently a friend of the family died due to liver failure at the age of 49. He never was a drunk or drank to excess but he'd like to come home every night and have a few bourbons before going to bed and his body in the end didn't agree with it. Tragic as it is its now made a lot of other people reconsider when they reach into the fridge before the news comes on.
Im only 23 and i have also had to give up Drinking, Smoking and Drugs and can say im a lot better for it now. I still drink on weekends IF i go out (not so much anymore) and have the occasional Joint with some friends but dont look back at the lifestyle i used to Lead. At 18 i was smoking a pack every 2 days and i'd be skipping Lectures to go to the pub and rocking up the next day pretty hungover But was slapped in the face and woken up when my Dad passed away due to a Heart Attack caused from emphyseima. In the end you realise its all not worth it...
Its Ironic cause now im in a job working 55 - 60 hours a week and im always telling my colleagues that they dont need that 6 pack of JD's on the way home and that the $100 they spend a week on booze and ciggarettes could be going towards their kids or a car/home but do you think they listen to me ?
If you think you can take advice from a youngin then dont hesitate to ask questions, I'd be glad to help.

That's a sobering tale Ben (no pun intended). As I've said before, I never was an everyday drinker, and only boozed on Friday nights, much to the amusement of the Forum members. But the problem was, I couldn't just have 2 or 3 drinks. I kept going until the bottle (1 litre JB) was empty, or damn near to it, and I VERY often wouldn't have any dinner, and would still wake up on Saturday morning with NO hangover, which told me that my body was getting WAY to used to it, which in my view is bad. Fine if you want bragging rights when you're 18 - 20 something, but pretty pathetic when you're a middle aged bloke.
I don't miss it at all, and I'm lucky in as much as I've always been the sort of guy who when I make my mind to do something, I do it, with no regrets.
