You reckon you guys are paying a lot. I took my boat out over Easter and put $380 into it and it was 1/4 full before I started! Not as many service stations too choose from out on the water.

$140 divided by $1.56 per litre =89.74 litres. Soarer doesn't hold that much,(78 litres) let alone 3/4 of a tank. That is unless you are talking about another car. Maybe he got a carton as well!!

Not a bad idea to take a 5ltr can with you, before you fill up and make shaw the pump is pumping right.ACA did a stroy about pumps not pumping right. Some pumps where saying 5ltr but only giving you 4ltr.

The minute the government reduces any of their charges on petrol, what is the bet it will be soaked up by the oil companies though? They have gotten us used to the idea of $1.50/litre, they won't let that advantage go in a hurry.

actually. we pay GST on the wholesale cost, AND GST on the retail cost... as well as excise.. so there are 3 taxes, and when the GST was introduced they said all existing taxes would be removed and replaced with GST.. lying cnuts!

Try filling a 4wd with a 120l tank.

And Rob. You actually only pay GST on retail. The wholesale GST is only intermediate and is deducted by the retailer before he adds GST to the whole amount.
We probably pay GST on the excise though.

the way GST was supposed to be set up is you pay no GST on the raw material
but we do pay GST on the prosessing of the raw material
so if that is how it happens we will pay GST on the process and then again on the sale at the pumps, as the servo's have to charge it.
And then the GOV gets there cut (for the third time)with the excise.
so no matter what way we look at it we get screwed in many different positions

Even though there's GST on the processing of the fuel, the actual processor claims the GST back on their BAS, so they're not out of pocket at all. They then onsell the product adding the GST on top of the sale. I'm not sure at which stage the excise part comes in, that definately has GST charged on top of the excise. Fuel stations buy the fuel with GST on top of it, claim the GST back on their BAS leaving them with net of GST cost, add a markup of whatever percent, and GST on top. You'll NEVER pay GST on GST, if it does look that way, then it basically is a markup in the supplier's accounts basically, not an actual GST that the government pockets. Hope that explains things.

Ah, but fuel driving up inflation, driving up interest rates, is good for me. I don't own a house yet, and the prices are f^*(in ridiculous. They need to come down a bit to let people my age and younger experience the Australian Dream.

I believe last year, Sydney was the 2nd most expensive place in the world to buy a house and Melbourne was #8? Adjusted for median incomes of course. Where is the sense in that? We have so much room and so few people!

Thank god I live in Perth. Only two price drops have occured in the property market, in the last 30 years or so, late 1970s oil crisis, and 1991 recession. Been on the rise otherwise. Then again eastern states are different... But I know what you mean, these days an average young person has to buy a house somewhere in woop woop coz can't afford anything closer to the city. And then pay more for petrol too if you gotta drive for two hours into the city
