I'm with Katrina/Reepa/Daniel on this one. It is meant to be a "one of those days" joke. Look at the size of the ducklings and size/shape of the holes. It is most improbable that five of them disappeared down there! Notice the last photo is cut on the left and in fact one of the original six ducklings has already disappeared by the second photo. Did it run ahead and dive headlong down the nearest hole ahead of its mother, or was it the first of them to turn away, or did it refuse to cooperate in the setup of the second shot?

I like ducks too.. it wasnt meant to be disgusting. Being I saw one the last one that the duckling is walking opposite direction of where mom is looking... all ducks could have made it across.. we're just assuming they didnt cause we dont see them... and the way the mom duck is looking makes us assume even more so. It really is one of those "its been on of those days" things

Mum is waiting for the rest of the ducklings which are still on the other side and have been cut from the last photo as suggested above. No drama, you can all sleep easy again now  |

Actually this made me think of that horrible nursery rhyme.
Five little ducks went out one day,
Over the hills and far away,
Mother Duck said quack quack quack,
But only four little ducks came back.
That song scarred me for life! I'm surprised toddlers don't slit their wrists after they hear it, why do we sing this horrible stuff to children.
Given it ends with And all the little ducks came back (or so I was told), but in the mean time you put the child (read: me) through emotional trauma! Is anyone else with me on this?!
