Im sure the topic name gives it away. Went skydiving today with Sydney Skydivers at their field in Picton near the Gong. Everyone who is scared of heights don't be. My mum went along for the ride too and she is afraid of going up escalators. Had an awesome time. It was over before it started and people who are scared of heights don't get that scared because it isn't as scary as you think. It was tandem and we got a dvd done of it so its actually comforting when freefalling as you have someone strapped to you who has done at least several thousand jumps and you have a cameraman in front of you... Whole thing is over before it started(think it takes about 4min from when you jump). And noone in Australia has ever died going tandem. If any of you have been thinking of it and never had the guts to do it i say go for it because all the people i have met have always been scared beforehand and wanted to go again as soon as they hit back down again. Anyway discuss....

Good stuff Brendan! I did a Tandem jump over the Whitsundays from Airlie Beach last year and it was without doubt the biggest rush of my life. Freefalling over all the islands with the Great Barrier Reef on the horizon is something I'll *never* forget!
The price certainly adds up if you get the video footage and photos but it's worth it! I got the works when I went - as high as they'd take us, video and stills and it was about $450.
Sorry about slow reply Simon, It ended up costing $400 and that included DVD and photo package. As for the landing bit, yeah we only got to land back at their base, i thought we would land on the beach but obviously we weren't either allowed to or they CBF'd and it was cheaper to only do it there.
Will do it again later this year with more friends. Good thing is now have discount card to use with them. lol.

On the flip side, my brother has a disk in his spine that is now 70% of original size due to sky diving. First dive, stuffed the landing up and ended up in the hospital. Doesn't really interfere to much in his life now, but was touch and go for a while and 6 months rehab

Strangely, I'd be way more comfortable about jumping out of a perfectly good aircraft, than I would be Bungy-jumping, which believe me is a VERY popular pastime in NZ.

great stuff brendon! I did it before as well at hunter valley. when the chute opened it really dug into my arms, had red marks where the straps were afterwards, the experience totally overshadowed that.
Yes i must admit there was a downside, my ears felt like the were exploding and they wouldn't repressurize when i tried to blow out of my nose and yawn etc. But even though it was painful the whole thing like trev said overshadowed it.
