I like the idea of a standard template for the sale of used cars - something like:

For Sale 1992 Soarer UZ32 (Endless list of mods), factory indicators, brand new, unused...

Many organisations are taught these days that it is important to celebrate their successes. At an individual level, surely it is right to wave a flag, if only briefly, after your most recent successful manoeuvre. What flag is more readily available than your indicator, or should we start using our hazard lights for the purest joy?

What do you think about graded licenses? Every time you complete an advanced driving course your level goes up e.g. bronze, silver, gold. Of course there would be rewards like a reduction in your insurance premium up to 80%. Should you be found guilty of an infringement your level drops accordingly. The attainment could be displayed so as there is an incentive to keep what you have.
But then there is always that great bit of road that begs you do something worthy with it.

Ok, so cause my work car has no stereo i have to find other ways to entertain myself while driving home so i thought i'd count how many people would switch lanes without warning and the end result.... 8 cars. This 1 clown in a new silver Fairlane did it 3 times within 5 minutes, I felt like running him off the road (without warning) and claim that i was having a sneezing fit.

I'm also getting pissed at the inconsideration of some people at merging lanes. Most of the time on a merge i will be INDICATING that i'm gonna centre up and the clown behind me will still have his bonnet in line with my rear door. Is there a road test for common sense and courtesy ??? there well should be.

the sneezing fit excuse does work, well at least it did work for me doing a powerslide through a set of lights and subsequent fishtail up the road afterwards . Cops were sitting in a driveway and seen it all, but let me off because of that excuse, I was 19 at the time

Yet another gripe. On my way home this morning, a cop car is hurtling down the road, obviously in the right lane. I see him and move immediately to the left to allow them to pass. The car in front of me decides that because he will eventually be turning right, he's not going to move but brake instead. This is one of those slow brakes, where you put you foot on the brake and lazily slow down. The cop car's lights are on and his flashing him, forcing the cop to actually go on the wrong side of traffic to overtake him. Friggin' ignoramous. There was a car in the left lane, but this idiot was ahead of him by a fair bit to move left to let the cop over take.

Back in 2000, some law lecturer told a few staff at Curtin University about the sneezing fit excuse... for quite a while curtin staff were running red lights and claiming that they had sneezed at the time, and were getting away with it. I think the cops realised the coincidence or something because one of the most senior staff issued a memo (as asked by the cops) to request everybody not to do so. I'm not sure if the law has been amended since then though...

Yeah I did it in 2000 also, but I was in Geraldton, so I doubt that was related to me at all

Still nice coincidence

Daniel - I had heard of the sneezing excuse before, but didn't know if it was true or not.

When you think about it, sneezing is an involuntary, un-predictable, natural bodily behaviour that causes some pretty weird reactions in a lot of people. Like closing eyes and tilting head, shaking head etc...

I've heard they changed the law where this is no longer an excuse, so I wouldn't try it now, unless you really got no choice. Hmmm...

As far as i know it still works. A friend of mine got flashed and went in claiming she didn't know about the fine and then said she was having a sneezing fit and the fine was omitted. Mind you, it was only $100 and 1 point, I reckon now if you tried using it doing something extreme like 40km's over the limit then it wont be a valid excuse.

No it's not illegal to sneeze when driving Perry, what I was referring to is if you commit a driving offence and you claim you did it because you had a massive sneezing fit where you couldn't control your car for the duration of it happening (and you run through a red light as a result), that will not excuse you from being fined anymore. I could be wrong on that though, but I did hear from somebody back then that this will no longer stand. I guess they might still consider it on an individual basis, like in Ben's friend's situation...

I heard second-hand from an advanced driving instructor in Canberra in the late 90s that a woman here got out of culpability for a serious crash (may have killed someone?) by claiming a sneezing fit which convulsed her foot on the accelerator while blinding her vision. It appears police formed the impression that her Monaro (? some large V8 Holden) may have been doing 140km/h in the 100 zone when she crashed but they lacked substantial evidence of it, so with that lack and the sneezing fit, she escaped.

She must have sneezed 10 times. It takes more than a few sneezes to get a car from 100 to 140km/h. Then again, cops are not very smart either

They already are. I almost lost my licence last weekend. I did a u turn and went sideways in front od them. I had no idea it was the police.
I said i didn't have the car for long, not used to a powerfull car, RWD, bla bla bla. I admitted that i did it on purpose and that's why they let me go. My friend was with me and he couldn't believe i still have my licence.
How lucky am i?
If i got off for this i don't think i'd be a problem to convince them that i was talking about someone else

Hmmmm, similar story here, you just gotta admit fault and look really really sorry. Last friday night I was driving a friend back home at 2am, empty roads, nice and cold, etc etc. Was doing some dodgy turning around the suburbs when all of a sudden the sky lit up, a friggin helicopter, as I was very close to her house, I stopped at her house and waited for 20 mins. Then I left, back on the freeway, couple of minutes later got a spotlight on me again, passed an onramp, and a copper pulled out of it, stopped me and said I was doing some dodgy driving around the suburbs half an hour ago. If it wasn't for the helicopter I would gone WTF?!?! but they probably record their footage so I just said I was passing a house with sprinklers on, where the street was wet, and lost traction because of it yadda yadda yadda got away with it, didn't even get a yellow sticker for my dodgy BOV hehe. Times like that you gotta be nice to cops

Hey, I pay my taxes, I may just as well get some special attention from them, I had so much light around me I could have switched off my headlights. It almost felt like I was living my fantasy... being pursued by cops in cars and helicopters with spotlights and the works haha, all I had to do was floor it Of course I got a life, so had to stop, mmmmm dream on

Oh, and I reckon even if they did fine me 100 bux or whatever that would still not cover even 5 minutes of the flight ahhaha, suck sh*t coppers!

Dan are you sure i'd be a $100? When this happened to me the cop wanted to take my licence for 6 months and my car for 3 days. New Anti-hoon laws apparently. I guess we were both very lucky and i really don't wanna test my luck again. Since this happened i started getting about 700km from a tankfull. It used to be about 600km. I wonder why....?

Oh I don't know, I didn't want to ask the guy how much it would cost if I was doing that on purpose, in case I jinx it. Either way, $700 fine won't cover their heli costs. But yeah, I was hell lucky though. This kind of spoilt it for me now, because I used to think I was invincible around suburbs at 2am, and now this bloody see-it-all chopper Can't have as much fun as I used to
