His idea is better than Perry's one about pushing me down the stairs if I got pregnant. He said that to a mate the other day and a older lady was standing there, apparently she didn't care for the comment.

Can someone explain to me the birth control failure rate figures? i.e. if it is 2% does that mean that it is 2% of all intercourse results in a pregnancy or does it mean that if a group of people uses that contraception for their whole life that 2% of people will get pregnant at some stage, unrelated to how many times they have sex. Just curious is all

The percentage is based on the number in the trial studies who fell pregnant while "using" the contraceptive (& during the course of the study). This usually does not account for miss-use of the contraceptive leading to pregnancy, which probably accounts for a large part of the "2%". If 2% of all intercourse resulted in pregnancy, I'd have quite a tribe by now! Generally if you stick to the instructions, your are safer than stated - though not always, as sometimes some things just dont work well for some people.

My presumption (I am not volunteering to look up this one ) would be that the data is collected either from doctors or from pharmaceutical company surveys of the population of users of their product, with proportion of pregnancies, rather than asking them about frequency of the ol' fandango. It would be easier to collect. Edit: Well, there you go. Matthew answered while I was writing.

OK well, I'm an oddball. Pretty much the only birth control that works on me is abstinence. In the past 7 years, I've been pregnant a total of about 7 times. I have kids who are alive and kicking.. each of them was 9 months.. so do the math (its exhausting) Anyways, I have concluded birth control isn't effective on me. I plan on having one more, and after that or by the time I'm 30. which ever comes first I am going to get fixed!!

Condoms should work most of the time, provided they are used properly and don't break they are pretty foolproof. Yeah, I know they take some of the fun and all of the spontaneity out of it. Soarer central - come here for all your sex education...

That's why you have got to love this forum, asking about pictures of people results in the questioning of contraceptive statistics. We should make a list of all the great off topic rants - with WA's Spotted thread leading of course!

Well thats the funny part, I was using a condom AND on the birth control pill.. well for my first pregnancy. I have them, wouldnt trade em for the world

| Yeah me and my gf were using the pill as the only protection for over a year, ended it like 6 months ago because it was screwing with her mind seriously, she was going all psycho for no reason, basically it was like having PMS but 10 times stronger and 24/7 Finally realiseed it is the pill causing it, so I had to make a hard choice either enjoy the feeling for an hour and put up with a b*tch for the rest of the day, or get less than average feeling (gosh it felt so crap first few times with a condom after you've been doing it without for so long) but at least have a more pleasant life. So chose the latter. Still miss those non-condom days

I can do you a cheapie Daniel. You can choose between the rubber band method or the crush method with a pair of bluntened side cutters. All for just $100.

Personally, I'm pissed they are sitting on the male pill for so long. Another 5 years, they reckon. It doesn't screw with our heads like the female version does for them, and theoretically should be more reliable. Just a warning: If any of you are considering the female implant, DO NOT DO IT! How the hell do you get pregnant while using the pill and a rubber? Did it break?

| Mel had the implanon. Not good. Once it's in and does not agree with you, you have to go through the drama of having to get it dug out again as compared to just stopping taking it.

I dunno Miles. It happened to a friend on mine. Not me |

Safe sex. You need 2 condoms and a tube of deep heat. Put 1 condom on, then the deep heat and then the 2nd condom. If either one fails, someone's gonna know about it.

OK... I'm not anywhere near thrilled with the topic of abortion on here.. I have my own personal reasons.. and I am pro-choice, I'll leave it at that. But can this perticular post please be the last mention we make of it.
