Hayden, my house has a late 96 model which I believe is the same as the 97 model. They are easily distinguished by their headlights. As for the car, what can I not say about it? It's a Lexus so it drives beautifully. Also has the premium sound system, not too sure on how many speakers are in there though. Seen a few that have been dropped with some nice chromies. Very simple, yet very elegant in my opinion.

I test drove a new ES300 in 2000 and thought a Volvo S80 handled better. In case you do not get it, the Volvo S80 does not really handle at all. Nothing wrong with the ES300 in other respects such as Vinh describes, though. Alternatively, you can probably pick up a twin-turbo 200kw Volvo S80T6 with all the leather luxury and a great sound system for peanuts.

No, Jan. It is an S80T6 with a twin-turbocharged transverse six cylinder engine of 2.8 litres, 200kw and 380Nm of torque. The non-turbocharged S80 had a 2.9 litre six. Lower-numbered Volvos used the five and four cylinder engines, although the 2.5 litre S60R produced more power -- 220kw. The latter car appeared in the "bloody Volvo driver" ads where a police Volvo booked a Porsche
I owned an S80T6 for three years before I bought the IS300 and the Soarer, so I sort of know what I am saying here
Don Bagnall Moderator New Zealand I have LESS Soarers than Hayden :-(

The ES300 is mostly like a Vienta, just nicer. It's the same engine so it's virtually indestructible. If you get a nice one then $10,000 is pretty OK. As with all older cars, get it looked over by a professional (NRMA is a good place) before you buy.
