And no, I definitely wouldn't say I was comfortable with things as they are, but I don't see that I have much choice in the matter. I am seriously crippled in the social skills department. My social paranoia is so bad that I almost vomited in my car on the way to Luke's 21st last week, just because I knew that I'd be in a social setting - and that's going to hang out with club members - people I'm (relatively) comfortable with. So I'm afraid talking to chicks is just out of the question for me.

You should get a door knocking job for 3 months for the sake of experience mate. Worked a treat for me back 6 years ago! I must have talked to at least 10000 strangers in that time, all different types of people (including nudists, weirdos, some tough people that wanted to bash me up, strippers, hookers, but also nice people, rich people, average people, oldies, guys, girls, etc etc). Definately made it easier to talk to new people for me. I actually like meeting new people now, to a point where if I go with friends to a party, and there are people I don't know, I sort of step away from my friends for a while and just talk up somebody I don't know. Otherwise it gets boring having your own little circle like that.

It runs in the family. My sister's the same. Except she just resorts to liquid courage.
And last week was nothing compared to the first club gathering I went to. I was soooo anxious, God only knows how I managed to keep myself together at all. Probably because I'd only had my car a few weeks, I was too worried about the mess I'd make from chucking up in it.

The question remains what are you going to do about it? I'm sure a few of us Soarer-folk can go with you to some social spots if you need a more comfortable crew to hang out with.

Nah, it's ok. I honestly couldn't think of anywhere I'd want to go socially. I don't do clubs and pubs, and it seems that that's all young crew do these days.

Ouch. I would still classify a lot of people on this site as friends especially people like yourself, Travis, Sam, Callum etc. Soarers are just the medium through which this has come about and the common interest that we share. How else do you classify a friend?
Still, offers stand.

Well, thanks. And in regards to the friends vs club members thing, I guess I'm still not prepared to classify you all as 'friends' after what happened with my b'day last year. Admittedly, I'd only known you all for 3 months or so, but still, I felt you were a group of people I could hang out with. So, as well a few old uni friends, I invited everyone I had met a few times from the club. I got a few yes's, a few probably's and maybe's. But on the day, nobody came. Nobody even let me know they couldn't make it. So sorry, but I'm a little guarded about calling people 'friends' these days.

Dan is right. The only way to get around this is to put yourself in an uncomfortable situation. And don't say that you can't do it. It doesn't matter if you vomit in your car or make a complete idiot of yourself. Compared to your problem, your soarer (just like any other one) is a piece of metal and nothing more. This is a serious problem and it needs to be solved for your sake. But its up to you if you want to do something about it.

Well Adam I apologise if I was one of those people but happens. Last year I tried to organise a birthday do, I had three people show up. Its my fault though for organising it at the last minute. This year I organised in advance and had around 30 people show up. So you can't take stuff like that as beign a qualifier for friendship.
If you've been holding this sort of grudge, is it surprising there isn't any more friends?
Life presents you opportunities, microsm example - Soarer crew as friends - it's up to you if you take them.

Luke, to be honest, it wasn't the Soarer crew I was that annoyed with. I was more annoyed at myself. I knew in the back of my mind that I'd be left eating 40 sausages myself, and of course I was right. But you're right - happens. And I am over it now, it was just that it made me become more guarded in how I deal with people these days.

And you guys are friends, but not real friends - you know Adam, the guy with the el stocko UZZ30 and the bad dress sense. But you don't know Chook, the pizza guy with serious baggage. He doesn't leave the house.

Oooh, Adam's still holding a grudge :-) I honestly couldn't come, so I ddin't even say that I could. But I would feel bad if I did say yes, and then not show up.

Yeah, Soarer club is just a medium via which you meet new people and you have the opportunity to become friends with. Just like any other place you meet new people at I reckon...

I wish I could organise a bday party (I've turned 25 yesterday, downhill for me now :-( ) but got no house to do it in as yet so...

I'd be worried if you did - I never posted anything on the forum - I invited people on an individual basis.

But it's all ancient history now, so it doesn't matter anyway.

Also, if you let negativity show its not surprising other people wont want to hang around you as you wont in their minds be a fun person to be with.

Gee, I love it when I start a thread.,.. it goes on FOREVER and it takes me 1/2 hour to catch up LOL

Yikes, where do I start? Yes I'm gonna speak my mind !! SoarerCentral is a medium place to meet ppl.. hence I'm a good example. I had a soarer, got TONS of great advice/knowledge, now no soarer and am still here making chaos :-) I have never met any of you guys in person, have talked to a few on the phone... but consider you all my friends :-)

Adam.. Adam, Adam, Adam... ADAM!! SHEESH!!! OK, I take a vote that the 5 closest living to Adam goes and abducts him and takes him out to just enjoy the evening. Head to a pub/hang out .. where ever and just relax and flirt with the girls :-)

Now, we have to start im-putting some GOOD pick-up lines in here so when you guys do take Adam out he will have 100% luck :-) Adam, do you ever go to the cruises for soarers? Sorry guys, I dont know being I have never been there :-(

Once I make it to Australia.. and I will one day.. SOMEDAY!! I'm going to round up everyone I can find .. including you Mr Barry and go out and have fun :-) Not a threat, just a promise :-)

First line to try.. if you are game for it.. Walk up to a girl and just say.. "Hi, how are you" .. its a nice ice-breaker.. or you can be bluntly cute and walk up to a girl, get her attn by tapping on the shoulder and saying, "I know its odd, but I would just like to compliment you and tell you that you are attractive" .. its plain, straight.. not being slimey .. and make sure to give a cute quirky smile when you do it :-)
