I still think Thursday night's game against Croatia will take a bit of beating in the sunnies-to-work stakes. Kick-off over in the west was at 3am.

Tequila shots at 4am during half-time are never a good idea. Doner kebab with the lot at 10am for breakfast on your way to work definitely is though...

By comparison, kick-off at 11pm shouldnt be nearly as bad.

Red Eye is in the Fridge chilling!

Should be a good game, hoping Viduka gets a bit selfish and scores!

Viduka is gash. Am yet to see him do anything noteworthy for Australia so far in this World Cup, and while I'm at it, what's he done for Middlesborough lately? (who are if memory serves 14th on the ladder now). Constantly off target, arsing up crosses and generally wasting opportunities. The younger, newer players (Kewell, Cahill) are embarrassing him to be honest. Close handling and sexy footwork are useless in a striker's position if you're too slow and cumbersome to follow through.

My two cents.

Middlesborough seem to think he is pretty valuable for them in the goal scoring territory. In Australia's usual 3-5-1 formation his job is to hold the ball up and wait for the cavalry to gallop through. He seems to do this pretty well from what I have seen, also taking defenders away from Cahill and Kewell.

Only another cent or two, no more

3-5-1-1 I think you mean...you're missing a valuable team member, there! (not Viduka, though)

It's not often you get something wrong David but there's no 'o' between the b and r in Middlesbrough.

David is right..well partly, Viduka does hold the ball up and waits for the cavalry to gallop through, but just imagine while is in the box he could actually put one in the net by himself!
Isn't that what strikers are supposed to do, at least on some occasions?

I'm with Sam, Viduka it's time to go.

While won't Guus play Lazaridis????

Dave, you leave me unclear on which is the more modest position for me to take: admitting that I have not read Middlesbrough correctly or admitting that I do not often get anything wrong . Under the circumstances, I am overwhelmed with modesty and leave the last word to Samantha

What a load of crap... I'm 1/2 Italian, but geez, the Aussies played amazingly, only to get a very poor call by the ref in the final seconds, handing the game to Italy. I'm not impressed.

Should've played Aloisi a lot sooner and the absence of Emerton and Kewell was definitely felt. Viduka, as usual, did nothing. The result was a shame though as they definitely deserved a win.

Definitely robbed. The ref should've blown time before the tackle.
The 'Roos had all the possesion yet never seemed to make anything of it and never looked like they would score.
Extra time was their only hope in that they had an extra man and looked fitter.
If it went to a penalty shoot-out both sides had good keepers but which side had the better shooters? I'd say Italy but their record in that department isn't great.
Came down to experience which the Italians had and the 'Roos didn't.
Sam, I think Viduka was just marked too tightly and couldn't find space otherwise he could be a hero today.
David, it was a mistake anyone could make. It was supposed to be spelt the way you did it but someone forgot the 'o' on the town charter in 1851 and it stuck, just like some peoples surnames have changed.
