Well I don't know how to write this or even if I should.

Tonight I will never forget as I was given news that no one wants to hear. I had not heard from a dear friend of mine for some time, assuming he was really busy working two jobs just to spend all his money on his beloved Soarer. I gave him space and did not mind not hearing from him for the last month (he did this sort of thing before and there was never an issue). But tonight I had some free time and I wanted to hear from him see what hes done to his car and I could show off my new paint etc.
He did not answer his phone so I left a message and went along with my evening......Later the phone rang and it was his mother with a quiet and shaky voice she told me that Nathan had succumb to depression and took his own life, she was not sure of whom she had contacted and whom she had not when it happened and was so terribly sorry for not letting me know sooner.

Im honestly devastated I cannot understand what happened and if there was anything I could have done. We all knew he had issues (but who does not), he was quite open about it and would always talk when he had a hard time and I always believed that with the right treatment and his friends he could get trough anything,he always had a smile when he saw me and when this man set his mind on something come hell or high water (his own words) he would finish it.

I now understand that depression does not have to be shown for it to be present that anxiety does not to be apparent for it consume your life and that sometime a job a hobby and friends cannot pull some people from the depths that he had sunken to behind the closed doors he was.

He was not a member of SC but he fell in love with a Soarer the moment he went for a drive in mine long time ago. He bought one not long after and had a similar accident to mine where someone hit his rear quarter. He fixed it just like me, drove the car like it was meant to be driven and looked after it more than I ever have of mine.

I call to anyone out there that sometimes feels really down that life does not have a meaning and that it would be easier to just end it.........PLEASE DONT , seek help talk to friend talk to stranger go to a professional hell email me and I will dedicate some of my time to you. It takes more courage to get help than it is to escape from the problem.

Im sorry if I have bored some or if they feel this is inappropriate but it is from the heart and I had to get it out for my own health.

I thank you for your time.

RIP

Jovica, I can not explain the feelings I feel when I read this post. How I can relate to this.

My Best friend Ben, whom also fell in love with Soarer's after he drove mine, also bought one and drove it how it was meant to be driven, took his own life in 2004, 4 days after my 21st birthday.

I wont say much here but if you want to talk about it, PM me your email and I can talk to you or give you some advice.

My Condolences to Nathan, his family and friends. May the happy moments be the ones that remain in your hearts for all time.

It's always a MAJOR shock when you find out things like this, especially when there's no earlier traces or signs that they could be suffering from depression.

My sincere condolences to yourself, Nathan and family and friends.

Guy's I think this is also a wake up call to the rest of us to look around and see if we know anyone that is having problems. Sometimes it doesn't take much to decide to end it, or just as importantly, to decide not to. Let's not forget that this is a community and share the good things with people we know.

Condolences to anyone that if affected by the tragedy of a lost friend or family member.

There are a lot more people around suffering from serious depression than most people think. And it can be VERY difficult to tell sometimes.

I once suffered from severe suicidal depression, and unfortunately for me, nobody I tried to talk to was willing to believe that I could feel like that (I was only about 10 years old at the time). Eventually things got so bad that I attempted to take my own life. I'm just thankful that I failed.

But it often occurs to me that it could just as easily have succeeded. If only someone had offered to listen to me back then instead of telling me "don't talk rot" (my mother's favourite line when I tried to discuss things with her), then maybe things wouldn't have gotten to where they did.

If anybody does know someone who they suspect could be sliding towards suicidal thoughts, it's so very important to show an interest. Just letting them know that someone believes them and is taking them seriously can make all the difference.

It upset me deeply to hear this, to thing that someone this young could feel that there is no point living. I know myself that I sometimes care too much about my car and neglect some of the people around me, but its just an object. Life is something to be treasured. My condolences to Nathan's family and friends.

It's always a terrible to hear of someone so young taking their own life, it just leaves you wondering what anguish they must have been experiencing at the time to not only contemplate but take their own life. My sincere condolences to you Jovica and Nathan's family.

I know where you are coming from, I lost a mate a few years back to depression as well. It is never an easy subject and never a nice thing to deal with.
My sincere apologise to his family and friends.
Beyond blue organisation is a charity for youth suicide, I know of one club that has organised a massive car cruise to raise money and it went really well. Good result for imports and a worthy cause.
People got to see that import owners aren't always rev heads as they like to call us.
Maybe if anyone has any ideas we could organise charity cruises every once in awhile?
Suggestions?
Once again my condolences

I have also been down the depression path myself but have come to realise there is no real medium for happy and sad and 1 good thing is enough to outweigh any bad things. Good "things" include having a good group of mates, a car, a loving family etc. If things like that aren't enough to make you happy then there is something wrong. I had a friend who had started a band and on the first night of his first tour he hung himself in his hotel room after the show, he was a recovering heroin addict and the medication he was on got the better of him. I send my condolences out to you Jovica and nathans family.

Jovica 1st condolences to Nathan and his family.

I too have been there and made it out.I was like everyone else thinking how can you get in this state untill it all comes crashing down on you, with the pressure's of life(no differant than anyone else) It comes down to how you handle it.I was forever trying to please everybody. You don't even know you are depressed untill you start thinking of ways out,so detecting the symptoms is hard. The only thing that worked for me was the very person I needed most was there and answered the phone.

I am sorry to bring up my story but it helps me to get over it.By typing this it has been hard.

Your loss of a good freind and telling us is not inappropriate.

Condolences to Nathan, his family and of course his friends like you Jovica.

Suicide is always hard to deal with, soo many questions left unanswered. Don't beat yourself up with the "What If" game.

Everyone has a story, so here is mine. A friend of mine committed suicide last year, he had been battling depression for some time, but kept it well hidden. His brother found him dead an hour before his friends were coming round for the footy. The boys were devastated to say the least, confused and upset seeing their best friend carried away. After attending the one year memorial recently, it was great to see the boys remembering the good times they had and celebrating the life he lived.

It's always hard losing anyone close to you, but always remember the good times you had and cherish them forever in your heart.

I cannot imagine what you are going through Jovica. Worst still I cannot imagine what his family is going through.

I think that if he was a good mate, you should perhaps honour him in some way. You beat me too it Nick B, I also though it would be nice to organise a soarer cruise in which people could donate money which could be given to the family. I'm not sure just a suggestion, I don't know him, but if like you say he loved his soarer I think some sort of tribute to do with soarers would be nice.

Send all our condolences here from SC.

I have emailed a fundraising group for depression, I am waiting to receive a reply from them.
I am hoping to maybe get a rep from each state an maybe organise cruises for charity in each state.
Would like to see the ALSC name behind it and get the public more aware of depression.
Matt maybe you could help me out?
I will post a new thread in, off topic

I think that is a great idea. Would a senior member like to organise a cruise from each state?

Is there a reason for why a senior member needs to organise it. I mean if I would hope that we would all want to do it, it's just that I have been emailed by a charity, I would prefer to have an insight from everyone. I have posted a new thread in the off topic for ideas on charity cruises and no one has responded.
I am hoping people will take to this, as it is a great opportunity for everyone.
To get approval by a senior member is a must, but I think and this is just me, so please do not take offence anyone. But this gives us all a chance to have a go at organising.

Wow, this is bringing back some sad & some happy memories.

Our family has been touched by depression twice. A very good friend of ours who I went to school with chose to take his own life one afternoon when he decided he couldn't cope with being secretly gay for most of his life. Sadly, most people who knew him, already knew he was gay but never mentioned anything for fear of offending him.

Recently, three years ago my mother passed away and as I was very close to her it hit me hard. I ended up being diagnosed with depression. I had had thought of ending things a few times but thankfully I didn't do anything about it. After counselling and medication, I'm now back to "normal".

I used to work with a bloke who always reckoned he was saner that everyone else as he had a certificate to prove it from his psychiatrist. Now he really was loopy - just like me.
