Hey everyone Just a quick question for anyone who lives in QLD or may know anything about it, do you know where RAAF Base Amberley is? What is there to do up there? I'm asking because I am joining the RAAF and I will be stationed up there when I have finished my training, I just want to get some background about what is near the base and things to do while I'm there. Also where is Kokoda Barracks, Canungra, QLD. Anyone know what there is to do there as well, as I will be training there for about 6 months.

If you move to Amberley man you'll be about ten minutes from me! lol... And about 5 minutes from Willowbank/Queensland Raceway... It's pretty quiet around amberley, still a lot of country, not very built up, its close to Ipswich, but my advice to you is to take a wide berth around that place... eeeek!
Brisbane is not too far away and theres always someting to do there, other than that, the gold coast/surfers is always a good option. Always plenty of cruising goin on up here to!

Hahaha Ipswich. I go there generally once a year because of the Winternationals at Willowbank. I have never seen a town so full of rednecks and weirdos.

That's not nice!!! I know a few people that live in Ipswich. Most of them have had the operation to remove their second head,and extra toes too. ....Just kidding!!!!

I spent three months at Kokoda Barracks on a course and it is a very pretty place. The rooms are quite good as well. No doubt you will have your car (recommended anyway), but there is a free shuttle bus that goes to and from Pacific Fair shopping centre. Should be a very interesting course and there are quite a few civilian jobs you can go for post airforce life. The mess at RAAF Base Amberly is much like sizzler, as a rule the Raffies have better bases all round when it comes to food. Make the most of it, as it wont be as good at Kokoda! I have never worked at Amberly, just overnighted there when my squadron flew us from Townsville to Sydney in a Blackhawk...my love of flying in choppers kinda lost its appeal after we got back to Townsville!! Good luck with it all.

Even though I'm a civvy I've been on base a number of times, and it is awesome... Massive too. My next job may even be on the base, I think they're getting some new hangars or living quarters or something built there....
And Ipswich isn't that bad... I mean its definitely not a place you'd wanna hang around, but it has all the necessities. Plus, like I say, Brisbane is pretty close anyway...

Dave that would be sweet, your not one of the trainers are you? because that would be weird, one minute your yelling at me, the next your showing me around lol I go in on the 29th of august.
