hey guys. has anyone driven a gt4 here? I test drove one before i bought the soarer, and it was an utter let down. I mean realy bad!!! I didn't realy test the handling, but the power was just not there! It felt really cheap too! I don't get it???? It was a mid 90's st185 i think. I've got a mate who loves them, and im trying to talk him out of it!

I test drove one in Japan before I got my soarer.. it wasn't what I was hoping it would be. The handling is mediocre.. not great. It just doesnt quite compare up to a soarer, or even a supra in my opinion.

My Mate used to own one.
It was done up a fair bit, Lowered, Air brush, bigger turbo etc.
And i have to say, that thing flew i used to love driving it. I found it handled quite well, it did lag a tiny bit but when boost came on it just launched everything. It was very noisy though that was the downside. It beat my Soarer fairly easy. My Soarer was pretty much stock though back then.
We wondered what it went like against a normal GT4. The day finally came when we came up against one at the lights and my mates GT4 Hammered the other GT4.
Unfortunatley he did have some problems with it the biggest one was the engine catching on fire down in Canberra (due to a workshops fault i believe) The fire wrecked abit of the Air Brush aswell, but he did get it back on the road again.

Yeah hi guys, I have a gt4 and no it dosen't match up to the soarer in power or comfort but for what it is it handles ok. Being a celica lover i tend to overlook its downfalls. I had it painted with pearl paint over red it looks sort of pink/purple in different lights. Is a bit noisey and harsh in the ride, Maybe we're just spoilt driving soarers.

I had a dead stock ST205 GT FOUR for a year and a half. It wasnt great. Friend had a heavily modified one (as in heavily modified for 1998), wasnt great either. Anything in particular you want to know?

Ok I've had a st185 and st205 gt4 celica and I would have to say that the st185 are gutless and very plastic on the inside from stock (unless of course it's a group A in which case they have a little oompf!) The st185 is very driveable with an extremely linear power curve (feels more like a bigger capacity engine then a turbo car) and the grip of awd is wonderful. Don't fool yourself though this car does requires some serious $$$ to make it worthwhile driving. Whiteline do a number of sway bars and suspension kits that will quickly fix up the nasty understeer these cars generally suffer from during high speed cornering. I spent just under $8k on my engine, turbo and exhaust mods and this car was flying along even though it weighed almost 1400kg. Oh and consider it a 2 seater as no g/f or mate of yours should ever be put in those so called back seats! Anyhow st205 is a much nicer car inside, outside and under the hood from stock however the cost almost double the price but in my opinion are worth the money as you'll end up spending it on the st185 hoping to get close to what the st205 has. As a compromise the group A st185 can sometimes be had for a bargain price if you can find one in good nick these aren't to bad with 169kw from standard compared to the basic models 154kw. As these cars are starting to push on in years make sure you go over all the mechanical aspects carefully as the repair bills can really mount up if you choose a dud (don't be fooled by a clean looking engine bay and low odometer reading). At the end of the day though for the same sort of money now days you can buy a GTiR and well I hate to say it but Nissans version in every aspect despite aesthetics leaves Toyota lagging way way behind!
