I am off to Thailand again next week so wondering if it is worth getting some thermostat housings made to replace the plastic ones that fail with age. The danger is an overheated motor (broken and too much to fix :-(

Let me know straight away if you are interested by writing your name to this email.
I don't know the price yet but it will be under the original plastic price.

The original genuine ones do last a very long time but are over priced, dorman make aftermarket ones for about $35 in plastic, the cast alloy are a good option but I recently have seen them somewhere for about $60, so i guess it depends on what price they can be made up for, also the alloy does suffer from corrosion also if not treated with coolant respect.

I have seen the Venom angled thermostat housing for $99 then there would be postage ontop, so I will see what I can get them done for. If it was about $30 each plus postage do you think there would be some interest?

Secondly, if I got them done in Stainless would that pose an electrolosis problem mixing with the aluminium V8 block and the copper radiator?

John, the radiator was plastic/aluminium, USA offered a copper radiator. After market has all variations available.

Thanks Jan, I just assumed it was copper and did not actually look properly at the radiator.

So, if I have a stainless thermostat housing is there any disadvantage over an aluminium one?

I will look at how much I can get it done in Thailand and let you know if there is a viable option.

Couldn't get it made in time. So just stay with what is available.

Seems like a nice idea. The glass fiber plastic ones can be quite expensive at Toyota dealer prices so this is not a bad option.

My V8 actually came stock with an alloy thermostat housing.

They are very nice, i don't need one, due to the fact that i have a good one on the car and a month ago purchase a genuine one on sale, so I figure i have 20 + years worth atm.

Yep, I made these out of pure frustration of customers losing their engines to such a simple product that just needed a material change to make it work flawlessly.

2 customers lost their 1UZ to a hairline crack in the t-stat housing and I lost all my coolant once close to the workshop as a result as well. Nearly cooked the engine - lucky I could smell the glycol evaporating on the extractors before the engine got hot.

I'll be putting them up on eBay soon and selling world wide.
