I'm getting some 18" rims (+45 offset), size 18x8 and 18x9 and would like to know what size tyres fit (and safely work in terms of not rubbing on the guards etc) - WITHOUT having to resort to modifying the car (rolling guards, removing bits etc).
BTW this is on a '94 UZZ32 in case there are differences per-year and/or model.
I currently run 245/50 on 16x8 rims (+50 offset) all round, and the tyre just touches the front guard lining at full lock (which I can live with).
The sizes I'm considering - in order to keep diameter and speedo etc close to normal are 245/40-18 and 275/35-18.
From using search, I get the impression that this should be OK (?).
From looking at the car, I suspect the rear tyre might stick out under the wheel arch, ie not facilitate normal suspension movement.
Does anyone know for sure?
Also, given that even tyres of the same size may differ slightly in actual size, if anyone has a specific example (tyre brand & model) that they use on this particular size of rims with an otherwise stock setup, I would like to know.

Tony, do you have a picture or two of your car ? The car in your profile has Japanese plates. I would like to see how the wheels fit in your guards. Also what rim offsets are you running with these wheel sizes?
Hmm. Looks like we've agreed that 275/35-18 "should" fit. However...
I've now got the 275/35-18 on the rear of the car (on 9" +45 wheels) but it looks like I may have to "downgrade" to a smaller size as they seem to stick out too much under the wheel-arch.
I haven't been game enough to lower the car, but they would almost certainly rub the wheel arch if I hit a big bump (which is only a matter of time on Sydney roads...).
How much extra clearance (if any) would removing the protective strip on the wheel arch provide?
