My rear control arms have movement in them, does anyone have any idea what sort of work has to be done to them and have any idea of a price?

They had a slight shudder there not very noticable and 3 weeks ago got a flat and had the space saver on...last night before i changed it over i took it for a quick strap and noticed a bad shudder and with the normal tyre back on it didn't get any better????

i've told the oldies they can't drive it anymore :-) no one unless i am with them all the time!

Get your control arm bushes checked to see if that is causing your problem. It may be a drive line problem instead of contol arms though.

Could be a driveshaft coupling or at worst may be a transmission problem.

Have it checked by some one you trust.

You need to quickly check the following:

1) The through bolts (10mm hex head) that bolt the uni's/CV L/R to the diff itself. There is a rubber coupling disc in between. Check that all the bolts are there & are tight. See below pic for a drama I had where there were only two bolts left & even those were just hanging.

2)Follow the tailshaft up toward the gearbox, there is a pressed metal shroud before the gearbox, loosen it & slid it toward the rear of the car so you can shine a torch in there. Check that the tailshaft has no movement L/R or up/down there & also up to the centre barring (Sorry no pic of this) Mine had spat a washer/shim out of one side & it caused a wobble/vibration at low revs under moderate throttle (we all thought it was axle tramp)which disappeared as the tailshaft got spinning fast enough to force it to spin on centre.

Rang up Cresta & got them to mail me new (2nd hand 10mm Hex bolts) I think it cost $8.00 inc postage for 6 bolts + about $12.00 from memory for Lok Tite (Blue) & I fixed em myself. The tailshaft issue cost 15c for a washer.
