Hi guys, just a quick question, when my 91 GTL is standing, engine off, when i push down on the drivers side front, it is very soft and makes a knocking noise, the passenger side is a lot firmer but you still hear the knock from the drivers side, also it makes that terrible crunching sound when you go over bumps and tramlines more than a high speed train, also at speeds around 105-110 it really vibrates in the front end, doesnt vibrate when braking or reversing just at higher speed?
would appreciate any help. |

hi shane,
thought it might be something to do with the airbag, but it rises and lowers the same amount as the other side, just feels a lot softer when pushing down on it? |

oh you have Airbag Suspension.

Thanks shane, me neither!!
but after a lot of reading i think im about to order all ther vft bushes and get them fitted and see if it makes a difference as they get such a good writeup they must be good. |

More than likely the shock side of the strut is fubarbed.
Do you get a jerking feeling through the steering on r/h corners at speed ? |

no jerking feeling apart from when it starts tramlining and i think im gonna shoot across the other lane of traffic!
neil what doo you mean by the shock side of the strut?

Gary what neil means is
the air bag struts in the Ltd soarers are like a shocky with an air bag wrapped around it.
what could be your problem is the shocky side of the strut is not doing its job properly |

hi lew,
thanks for that, just called the local trusted company for suspension work in perth, wilkinsons, and he said it was probably the airstrut needed replacing, and he said its probably not worth replacing it with a used one,whats your opinion on that, afterall $900 is a lot of money,but open to suggestions.

Suggest you replace them in pairs, making it $1,800 for new ones.

UPDATE
the dampening was softer when the car was lowered, i have just put it back to the normalposition and it is the same on both sides now, ie not softer on one side than the other, if this helps topinpoint the problem? |

Gary, get a shock test at Pedders (costs about $15) rather than relying on pushing the car around. The potential cost or waste is too great not to have reliable information. |
