I've had a certain Diff, Gearbox and Clutch Service centre build my diff up for me. I removed it and supplied the torsen centre. Upon inspection they decided that the bearings were okay, and the gears needed to be lapped. So, for a dis-assembly, clean, re-assembly, and gear lap, is it reasonable to charge $622?! I was floored when they told me that!

Farrrk me....Bullshit mate..
It only takes about 1-1.5hrs on the bench.
No need for lapping as you dont touch the pinion !
Remove center, take crownwheel off, install onto Torsen, swap bearings ( if you damage them then you have to get new ones, about $90 each from Toyota ) then refit center..

That's what i thought neil! They suggested lapping the gears because they did have metal go through the teeth, and it would create a new meshing surface. But surely, even if that was say $150, where did the rest of it come from? Like you said, for that much, you'd expect all new bearings, and a few favours! What rights do i have as a customer if i think that i'm being ripped?
