TEMS "Toyota Electronic Modulated Suspension" It has two setting sports and normal. These can be accessed from inside the car with the flick of a switch. .......do all soarers with tems suspension have this feature or only some models?cause mine has tems and no sign of any switches to change settings in the car.have also noticed on some models where the word "piezo" is in the picture some have the word TEMS,whats goin on with that?anyone know? Air suspension V8s have the switch, TTs (all of which have coil springs, some of which have TEMS) don't.

I'm not sure about Actives.

TEMS is an acronym which Toyota use for various different suspension systems on all sorts of vehicles, including people carriers and 4x4s. The only common feature is some sort of electronic control of the suspension characteristics.

thanks gareth, while your on a roll i have noticed on my contract of sale on my car details it has toyota soarer GT-L,can you tell me what this means as yours is GTT-L thats twin turbo limited im guessing and is that actually stamped on your compliance plate, cause on my plate it is stamped 1jz-gte what does the gte mean?Model Designations:

1...Soarer 2.5GT-T JZZ30-ACMVZ 1JZ-GTE
2...Soarer 2.5GT-T JZZ30-ACPVZ 1JZ-GTE
3...Soarer 2.5GT-T-L JZZ30-ACPZZ 1JZ-GTE
4...Soarer 2.5GT-T-L JZZ30-ACMZZ 1JZ-GTE
so basically im trying to work out what i have got here JZZ30-ACPZZ 1JZ-GTE is what is stamped on the compliance plate so if L means limited what does the limited have that the others dont ,and whats the differance between ACPZZ and ACMZZ .cheers

The sales people must have missed a "T". A GT-L is a V8.
I don't own a TT so I can't help you with the rest of it.

I think only the TT GTTL have TEMS and look at the plate under the bonnet. It the Frame is E-JZZ30-ACPVZ (or ACMVZ in manual) then it is a GTT.

If it is E-JZZ30-ACPZZ (or ACMZZ in manual) it is a GTT-L.

Also the Norm/Power (ECT) switch in the TT / UZZ32 make the suspension firmer when switch on..

V8 models (not the Active which is quite different) with TEMS have a separate switch. TTs do not but it is controlled with the ECT switch.

1JZ is the model of the six cylinder 2.5 litre engine. The T in GTE means it is turbocharged. 3 litre engines in the Soarer, Aristo, Altezza and others were a 2JZ engine and are -GE in most models of the cars I mentioned but are GTE in turbo Supras and Aristos.

Getting any clearer?

Nor the UZZ30s which only leaves the GT-L (UZZ31) V8. :-)

Yer Scott, thats the Norm/Power (ECT) switch ..

when the switch to Power, it should make the suspension firmer..

When i switched to Sport mode in my UZZ31 Limited V8, i cant really tell the difference too...

otherwise you can always try out the trackday setting in ya TT

It's in the reading Pen. I wrote "V8s ... with TEMS" meaning those V8s which have TEMS not "V8s ... have TEMS". It saved me looking up if it was all UZZ31s or only those with EMV or if UZZ30s had the option as well. I gather now it is any UZZ31 and those only (apart from the TT option). Thanks.

"P" is auto and "M" is manual.

As to what is different in a GTT-L...

I'm sure someone will have more details, but I think that the "L" always has wood trim and TEMS. In addition, mine has ABS, TRAC, electric seat adjustment (and the passenger seat moves forward automatically to allow access to the rear), leather gear lever, rear wash/wipe, boot spoiler. Not sure how many of those are "standard" on the GTT-L (but they were probably all options on the GTT anyway).

Better dash display(displays faults)
Cruise Control
Higher level sound system with stacker

Rear wiper, spoiler,Trac would be options.

The higher level system was an option across all of the twin turbo models. My 93 GT-TL didn't have the factory amp and sub, nor did it come with a factory 12CD changer.

The TEMS function I couldn't feel the difference in the older models, but in my new Soarer it has a separate switch for TEMS and the gearbox (plus traction control w00t), and you can feel it getting a firmer ride when the button is switched.
