I have King Spring lows in mine, 7.6/3.75 kilo with standard POV pack shocks. Ride height is legal. It could use some firmer front shocks but the rear combination is pretty much perfect. I'd say anything between 7.5 - 10kg and some Koni yellow adjustables' on the front is a perfect combination. A 40-60mm drop is about right, in fact 60mm would be perfect if you're not phased about 'law-ful' intervention.

Im considering re-doing my suspension setup - king spring super lows all round with koni adjustable yellows all round. Some Supra 17x9.5's and good rubber = lots of traction and beautiful cornering.

With a softer front the car is less tail happy but more likely to understeer with weight shift, thats what im feeling right now. Its really the shocks that need firming up as the setup is off key with the presumably worn standard items.

err softer front end will give *less* understeer

unless your shocks are stuffed that is...

Sorry mate im talking about my car in particular :-)
The standard front shocks are worn from what i can hear and feel.

I've got some pricing for koni yellow adjustables; turns out they are under 600 a pair for the front delivered, probably the same or cheaper for the rear.

Im thinking of selling my current king spring lows and going a little lower, then adding a set of koni yellows..

I have been researching a few options of late:

I have ben told that Bilstein struts from a JZA80 Supra can be re grooved to adjust the spring seat position so that height can be adjusted for a given spring.

The bilstein struts are great, even at ~ 13 years old.
I am looking for a decent spring for them as they are too low at teh moment. My ride height is about the same as rainers. Cops love it!
I have also been told that a supra spring / or aftermarket made for the supra, eg King Spring, will then be too low on a Soarer. I am yet to confrim this bit will let you knwo how i go. Fittign standard heigh King Springs to the bilsteins and apparently under the heavier Soarer chassis it will drop it a bit.

If i fit 19s in thenew year i will get teh struts groved from Bilstein so they are adjustable

Update time.

I finally got some one to answer the phone yesterday ( Monday) and ordered a set of Tein Super Streets (QST60-EZSS3). They arrived today however so did my little boy (Hunter Bryce - 8lb 4 oz!) so I will try to go and pick them up tomorrow. I hope to fit them in the next week or so but you know how new borns can be...

PS: after a check at the local suspension joint only the rear sway bar bushes were found to need replacing. I specifically stated I was worried about worn lower control arm bushes but was told there was nothing wrong with them. Guess I'm just lucky ( on all accounts today!)

Righto!

I am now the proud new owner of a set of Tein Super streets. Once I finally placed my order they arrived at Bowers suspension in Newcastle overnight.

I fitted them in a couple of hours with the help of my non-mechanically-minded father-in-law. They were very easy to install and I have been playing with the ride height and damping settings for a day or so.

If you are after extremely low ride height these are not for you. They appear to be more performance orientated than cosmetic, and as such don't have enough thread to lower the front wheels deep up into the wheel arches like some people are want to do. They will allow you to lower the ride height about 50mm max (at a guess) easily and return it to stock height if you need to by use of the C spanners included.

The stock ride height on my TT was Front 390mm from hub centre to arch (or 707mm from ground to arch) and Rear 365mm (or 680 mm). I have now got my Teins set to front 352(669)mm and rears 340(655)mm which is a drop of 38mm front and 25mm rears. I am not set on these heights but still playing around. Interestingly Tein recommend they be set front 360mm and rear 340mm. I may move back to this setting.

The damper rate is easily adjusted by knurled knobs on the top of the struts. Full clockwise is the hardest setting possible and 16 ‘clicks’ back is the softest. In the little amount of driving I have done there is a noticeable difference from 12 ‘clicks’ to 5 ‘clicks’. 12 ‘clicks’ is the Tein suggested stock setting. Much more experimentation needed in this area to give intelligent feedback to forum readers.

Overall the entire car feels much tighter and more stable on the road. I have not noticed any of the knocking described by other coilover users but it is early days yet. I also think the spring rate is a good compromise between performance and comfort but may be a bit soft for a serious track user. Hopefully I will be able to test this out in the coming months also. At this stage I am very happy with my coilovers but really want to get the family into the Soarer for a day out and about to really judge all those little things that can make or break the motoring experience.
