I really have got to wonder why on earth you would turn the suspension off for towing! I think it may have something to do with the 'three channel only' design of the airbag system. Why the hell they didn't make it four like an Active I don't know; all the hardware is exactly the same. it may also be because the front and rear ends can't be controlled entirely separately; again an extra solenoid or two would do it.

For SMALL towing loads I would adjust the system max air pressure up a bit and leave the suspension on. I suspect this is why they say to turn it off. A big load on the rear will put the airbag pressure right up and possibly blow an airbag.
