I have just purchased a TT with TEMS.

On closer inspection I have noted that I have TEIN adjustable coilovers on the front.

Do these shocks still work with TEMS ?? If so can they be serviced or checked ?

The Teins are full replacements so the connectors going to the OEM struts are now useless (since they can't be plugged into the Teins).

Now worries :-)

I'd get the Teins rebuilt personally. IIRC there are 3 different versions of TEMS struts for the Soarer, so if you go that route you might wanna check which version you've got first.

What model Teins do you have? If it's the later model you can add that electronic damping controller they've got (dunno if it makes much difference, haven't ridden in a car with it installed but seems to get good reviews).

You can still buy new from Toyota. Get on to Castle Hill Toyota to get a ALSC discount price. Then post it up here as I may be going to get some new fronts soon. I bought new rears about 3 years ago, and they cost $440/pair. I would expect more now!!

Going by your profile, I reckon you've got the early series TEMS. Apparently there are differences between the year models for the turbos. I was quoted $300 each for mine (97~ model).

You have been priced on Air Bags.

The TT TEMS Strut is about $350 each I think.

I've had personal experience with Tein super street coilovers rebuilt for aus roads by fulcrum - and thought they were a great ride and handling combo, this was in an n15 turbo pulsar.

More developments today... While I was getting some new Endless pads fitted, the mechanic noticed that a previous owner had cut the rear springs and tack welded them back onto the bottom strut plate to lower the vehicle. Bad news was that one weld broken and the spring was trying to wind itself down over the bottom plate : ( !!

I now have HR Teins in the front (needing a service) and Tems in the back with chopped dodgy springs... (It still looks good tho ???) Just kidding..

Choices are:

1) Get a new set of lower springs for the rear (eg Kings)

2) Get a full set of springs, plus a new set of TEMS for the front, or

3) Replace the whole lot and start fresh with a full new set of coil overs. (Preference at this stage is HSD or Tein SS)

From all the threads I have read it seems that there is a mixed bag of satisfaction with coil overs. In speaking to Tein distributors (Fulcrum QLD) I was advised that the new Super Streets' are specifically designed / valved for "Aussie roads" and are softer then the Jap version. I was assured that they and are much better that the older HR's etc.. (Sales BS ?)

I would really appreciate any further feedback on user experience with HSD and Tein coil overs.

Based on some more first hand user feedback, I would be happy to then purchase a set, test/document the results and hopefully contribute to closing out some open ended threads?

Teins designed for australian roads, haha that's funny. Sales BS mate. The super streets are just softer sprung than before, and damping made to suit, that's all.

If there anything like the spring rates I run of 10k and 6k on my garage section coilovers, they'll be tops for aussie roads.

I have been researching suspension options for a while now and have made the decision to go with Tein Super Streets (Auspec) due to the two year warranty and the spring rates which are about 9kg/mm front and 5kg/mm rear. I think these rates would be a good daily driver/ track day play type of compromise. The thread is here:

Now If the suspension shop would just answer the bloody phone....

Oh but they ARE Ben :-)

Thats why they have not allowed Fulcrum to bring in the Aristo units..

Tien WILL NOT sell Jap Spec coilovers to any other country ( From them anyway )

My car was at Suspension City yesterday.
Great guys there! i was very happpy with my experience (except that my car sits way too high now.. had to clear a defect)

I got King Springs (Front lowered Soarer spring, rear standard Supra Spring) fitted over Bilstein shocks from a Supra. The TEMS struts have diffenret spring seats toe the Supra shocks so you will not have the same combo as me though.

Ride is much better with increased travel, just looks a bit moore dorky than when it was slammed.

he also said he would compress them for me after i clear the defect for ~ $40!
