I've got my car being looked at by Niall at the moment, and it appears I have two shocks that need replacing. I have a GTTL with TEMS. The best price he can get them for is $900 each!!! I did a quick call around just to make sure noone was making a mistake and quoting for active airbag struts. Of course Niall was right as I was quoted $1100 each for rears and $895 each for fronts!!! I'm stunned. The TEMS shocks in my old MA70 Supra only cost $75 each when I replaced them 6 years ago. I've seen posts from peoples saying they have bought TEMS shocks for only a few hundred dollars each. Whats going on? It looks like Im just going to have to get boring old non-TEMS shocks, as I can't justify the expense of the TEMS variety. I'm assuming they can't be rebuilt?

Except for the fact that you are talking to Niall, I would say it does not sound right. Air bags with TEMS can be picked up for $900 and I and another member have priced TEMS struts for a '97 VVT-i at $350, and I thought they were more expensive than for earlier models

Niall orders his parts from Castle Hill aswell if there was some kinda mistake you would think his supplier woulda pick it up? For that kinda money your better off buying a comfortable set of Coilovers.

Doesn't seem right to me either. But Niall got the price from Castle Hill, I confirmed it, then I tried calling Sydney City Toyota and I was quoted even more. How much are they in NZ? I really don't want to give up my TEMS. I'm kind of attached to it. Even though I can't feel it doing much, I've convinced myself that deep down it's really making a enormous difference to the handling of the car.

It's tokico. Apparently they make the oem shocks. Anyone knows who distributes them in Australia?

$125 each, but that's a club discount......(and maybe subject to change as I haven't checked today) If you ask really nice, Don might have a chat to the lads at Tassie Toyota for you (I think from memory, someone has dealt directly with them from over your side of the ditch before anyway) And as said, if you weren't dealing with Niall, I'd swear someone's giving you prices for Air struts |

Thanks for the offer Neil, if I had that kind of money I would definitely be going some fancy coilovers. But I don't, I'm really not prepared to spend more than a grand fixing some shocks, and still that's a bit steep.

Or you could buy a set of Tein Comfort sports from USA at 1300usd with 200usd delivery and 200au customs which would have your shocks landed in your hands for $2000

Well, on Niall's recommendation I'm settling with standard non-TEMS shocks, which are a whole $90 each. I'm a bit disappointed to be losing TEMS, but there doesn't appear to be an affordable alternative. But if anyone can think of something in the next few hours...

You might think it's expensive , but how old is your car now ? So the shocks have lasted how long ?? That makes them pretty cheap in my book , I will soon be up for rears in my Celsior and knowing they will last and work well for at least 10 years means it's money well spent .

I think they are expensive because about 4 or 5 years ago they were about $140 each. About 3 1/2 years ago I bought 2 rears for $440 delivered. There is no way I would pay $900 each for tems shocks. They aren't that good. It's just a Toyota "RIP OFF". I would take the standard non tems shocks or look for something else.

Yeah personally I mean, you're not buying the air bags, so I wouldnt go about spending your life savings (well mine anyway ) on TEMS. Just get after market ones, as they said TO-KI-CO i just love japanese
