I have a 1992 TT GT-TL with the TEMS struts. I want to replace them with standard non -TEMS struts--never noticed any difference with them switched on or off anyhow. I understand they fit straight in but do I need any other bits and pieces eg top mounting plates etc? Anyone actually done this job?

The TEMS mount like any set of coilovers. Replace with the coilovers of your choice, straight swap (obviously you dont need the ones with camber/caster adjustment on top as they would do nothing with our double wishbone suspension).

Jeff, I dont want to replace them with coilovers but with standard Toyota struts which came on the standard TT --Penrith Toyota quoted me $66 a strut! Want to restore the smooth supple ride.
Daniel, I'll let you know if I go ahead with this.

Lucky, your struts are only $66 each. I got told my one was $300 each (found out when I had another Soarer inspected, 96 update model).
