I'm in Brisbane and I'm supposed to drive home to Melbourne with the family tomorrow but have the Dash Warning Message indicating "Active Suspension" error. Recently (5,000km) I had my suspension rebuilt and regassed and it has been great. Because of the error I cant do the active "dance" which means I cant bleed the suspension. However (foolishly?) I tried - all wheels except the RHF bled fluid, from the RHF absolutely nothing came out, but now the car is sitting on its belly and I cant go anywhere. I tried doing a diagnostics check but didn't seem to have much luck. It is like a fuse or a plug is unplugged? We need to be back in Melbourne so I'm desperate - any clues?????

Switch in the boot?? Does it have enough susp fluid?? Check all the fuses, even the ones that seem to have nothing to do with the susp. Try the diag again. Try starting the engine and (with your foot on the brakes) putting it into gear. Maybe have to drive a few meters. Disconnect the battery for a few minutes to reset the system.

Hopefully a member in Brisbane, with a '32, that reads this can help out.

Thanks for your reply guys, Yes it has plenty of suspension fluid and I've just had it in Drive both stationary with the handbrake and foot on the brake and also been driving it a few meters backwards and forwards for the last 20 minutes with no change in body height - I've checked all the fuses that I can see, currently I've the battery terminal off for 30 minutes and will try again

Lynton, any chance you could read the suspension diagnostic code's. We might be able to get a better idea if we had the numbers. They should scroll on the dashboard when you jumper it into diag mode. If RHF did not bleed I'd check the height control sensor on that wheel and the wiring and solenoid connectors on the valve body. The RHF wheel is controlled by the lower of the front four solenoids facing away from the engine on the suspension valve body. (providing my Klingon translation is accurate)

Can you remind me physically where the RHF height control sensor is and where the suspension valve body is - thanks? Is the INFO-AUDIO ignition to ACC, then to ON, ACC,ON,ACC ON and ACC ok?

The error code I'm getting is E1 which doesn't seen right to me.

Nothing from RHF ! Even the body weight pushing it down should have expeled some fluid. Did you check suspension fuse this to the front of the fuse box in drivers foot well ? What happened PRIOR to all this ? Like how did the Kligon come on..did you do ANYTHING ?

Try diagnostics with the jumper in the diag port. I've never been able to get that other method to work.

Dan is correct, the EMV can't display suspension codes. Link Ts and E1 and Tc and E1 on the Diagnostic port (where you set up the links to do the active dance) then read the codes from the dashboard message display. They should scroll one at a time after SUS NG appears.

Thanks Dan and Roger for your suggestions - I'm just going out now to try again. Neil, there was a very small amount of a lot of air and not much fluid which came out of the Front Right side bleeding nipple. Out of the blue the Kligon came on when I started the car, it rode in a very bouncy way so I continued to my destination - I may have put the higher setting on before hand but I'm not sure. Other than that there isn't much to tell.

???????? Sounds like the seals are stuffed in that accumulator.. ( I spose they were DRILLED into for charging ! ) By starting the car and putting into gear,,suspension pump should run and make it possable to bleed..But if it dont engage,,you wont pump..So look for electrical problem. Possably a controller rod has fallen off..Check all corners. |

Lynton, did you check to see if the drive belt is broken. Easy to check, try turning the steering wheel, should be light to turn.

Roger, thanks for your time and suggestions. Neil, thanks too and I'll keep trying Daryl, I checked the drive belt and that is fine, thanks for your suggestion though.

I had a long talk to him and we tried the suspension diags. Nearly every code in the list comes up so not very helpful. He is parked where he can’t get out with no ground clearance. 3 of the four struts bleed normally but the RHF gave an almighty fart and froth then nothing. I think Neil is correct the accumulator has lost its seal on the sliding piston and the nitrogen has ended up in the top of the leg. Lynton is going to check the height sensors and valve body etc. in the morning. Apparently the fault appeared after starting then went away for 2 days and now is back with knobs on. Till he bled it it was drivable but with a fairly bouncy ride. Now it's fully dumped. The accumulator recharge was done without replacing the sliding seals and that often seems to end up a very temporary fix. (He had it done by a motorbike suspension specialist) Codes if anyone wants the list are below. I think until he can get the car out of where it is beached and back onto the road then run the diagnostics properly it's going to be hard to make much sense of it. If I were guessing I'd say FRH accumulator and height sensor would be the first suspects. These are with the car stationary and doing the steps in the sequence up to driving the car at 20 km/h. 11 12 13 14 17 18 19 23 24 25 26 45 46 47 55 61 62 63 64 65 66 67 68 71 72 73 74 75 76 81 82 83 84 85 86 87 88 91 92 93

I was able to drive the car on the road for about 3km getting to about 70kph - no difference. Took the LHF wheel off and covering to view the controller, disconnected and reconnected any connections I can see, still no difference. All the controller rods are intact. It seems the pump isn't pumping, it's a pity there isn't an override similar to the fuel pump.

Lynton, does the pump 'sound' like it is pumping?[or is there a dry bearing kind of sound?]

There isn't a dry bearing sound anywhere - but remind me (in case I'm going mad) exactly where I'm listening.

Try disconnecting the height rod off the lower control arm, and manually moving the rod up and down with the engine running. It may just be a crappy spot on the sensor that's not giving a signal.

Thanks Dan, I just disconnected both front height rods and moved them up and down with the motor going both in and out of gear - unfortunately no luck. It seems like whatever is causing the error message is blocking anything else happening.

From memory it is behind the trim where the drivers side passengers right elbow would be. Silver with a blue sticker. Are you still in Brisbane? I have a spare one you could connect up to check.

Pezz, thats the 4WS ECU.. Suspension one is on Passengers Elbow If you get it going,,And it bounces..Disconnect the accelerator sensors in the boot for the trip home.
