Actually I got lucky some guy bought brand new struts and totalled his car within two weeks (unlucky for him). I bought a pretty much brand new strut for $300

Went through the same process over the last 6 months. Went through 2 second hand front right. No warranty etc, old as the originals and probably just as troublesome. Bought a brand new one, $865 delivered.
Want to keep the car as original as possible, I would rethink seconds.

Sarjon. Is "Lefty" leaking oil or air? If it's leaking oil, buy a new one. Your better off buying a new pair,if funds allow. If 'ol lefty's' leaking air, you might be able to save it.(untill funds allow to buy new ones). Somewhere on this on this forum, someone described how they fixed an air leak out of the top of the strut using Araldite. I tried it.It took quite a few attempts at stopping the air leak.

The front left shock goes first probably because it gets the most average usage. Every time you go through a round-about the front left is taking the greatest load. Same reason front left tires wear faster. Just a guess!

My front left airbag shock is not brilliant either. I have seen instructions for adjusting to "trackday" diagnostic mode.. Would this be a good short term solution? If left on this setting for an extended period could it decrease the lifespan of the shocks? cheers

My front left also let go after trying the track day diagnostic mode. It appears that it's pushed the strut insert up and cracked the top seal in the air bag.
So I'd probably suggest against using that paperclip trick. If you want it too handle go buy a set of springs ;)
I did a temporary repair on mine with sikaflex and a turned up ring pressed back into the top, but it goes down over night. I've got another one lined up, but at the end of the day I'm going to change over to springs.
