Hi all
what type of oil should be use in these diffs. can i use something from the local auto shop that would suit an lsd. i also remember seeing a thread that explained how to change the oil and how much to put in but i cant find it.

ok thanx mark
now i have another question i have gone to the trouble of fitting it. but there is something wrong with it when i turn corners slowly it seems to be locked up like a mini spool. i wouldent think thats normal. i removed only the rear cover be for i fitted it and it looked ok no metal in the bottom and no chipped teeth. it dosent make any noise when driving strait. any ideas thanx peter

hmm mine doesnt make a bang, and now i think about the inside wheel only slips if i take off quickly around the intersection at the top of my street. mine is a sept 94 model, what year did the type I and IIs come out?

A Torsen, or Torque Sensitive diff, will lock up when ever torque is applied to it.
ie, if you accelerate, and turn at the same time, it senses to torque applied to it, and locks.
If you back off, and coast around the corner, it will unlock, and go into freewheel mode.
A clutch LSD however, is ALWAYS locked, until the want for one wheel to turn less/more than the other overcomes the strength of the spring making it LSD.

Unless it's a Torsen II which has both. Type I Torsen is a torque multiplier so if one wheel is completely unloaded it won't drive as zero times whatever is still zero. Torsen II overcomes this with a clutch pack.

i am about to remove the diff to have it checked. from wat i thought i knew about diffs lsd and torsen, have been confirmed by all of your replies.
so thanx for that
from wat i can tell the diff is not unlocking as i was reversing into the garage with the car only in idle my dad saw the left rear wheel jerk around and spin the opposite way hence the bang and shake through the car.
i always thought when they are worn that it cant hold the pressure on both wheel, or is that not the case with the torsen.
