My car came with Tein HA's which exhibited clunky noises at the rear, so I sold them for spare parts and purchased a set of SS's as replacements. These were the Japanese spec as the Australian specs which Bilstein now sells. The were great for the first year and were extremely quiet for coilovers. However after about 2 years of owning them. they have started to making clunking noises and rattling over every bump I go across. Its really annoying and its tempting me to go to struts instead, but i like the adjustabiity and feel of the teins.
Do other people have a similar experience? Any reccomdations? A rebuild could be in order, but it would then be almost the same price as a brand new set and even then it wont be guaranteed to get rid of the rattles.

Do they have pillowball upper mounts or a rubber upper mount like the Australian sold Super Streets? The upper pillowball (spherical bearing) do wear and can be replaced.

i have noticed that the bushs, specially the lower controll arm bush's get a really bashing with the HA's and SS of which i have experienced both of. Best to get some Nolathane's or something of a more heavy duty nature as i have noticed that unless you have custom made coilovers for the comfort and ride of your vehicle; the japanese tuff nuckles really work those 15 year old bushs.
