Hey guys,

From my limited (pun not intended) research it seems that the stock compressor is the cause for the slow raising and lowering of the UZZ31 bags. So my question is what aftermarket compressor would be suitable in terms of capacity and psi which would work with the factory system? Is it that easy?...

Do the lines have to be replaced as well?

There are plenty of fairly cheap aftermarket compressors on ebay. But I'm thinking if it was as easy as that then why haven't others done it already...

Anyone in the know?

Cheers

i was wondering about that my self i thought that the tiny air lines had a lot to do with it as well

May have to research one as I think mines failed! :-(

Although reading one of MP's posts it seems that even with a bigger pump it won't necessarily pump faster unless you bypass the computer entirely.

I have seen a Celsior set up with after market pump, he also fitted bigger air lines and an extra air tank. But what he also did was set up a switch to work the original pump and computer for normal driving, then switch to his other system to quick dump or raise the car. He eventually burst an air bag from what I remember, or was it a shocker, either way you need to control dumping or pumping to restrict the flow enough not to do damage to the factory air shocks.

Other wise go totally after market.

A larger holding tank might help??

Mark Paddick wrote on Saturday, July 08, 2006 - 12:02 am:

No good; won't work.
The rate of speed rise is controlled by the height computer not compressor size.
There is a built in delay to prevent suspension height reacting to bumps in the road; it is not meant for that. That's what TEMS is for.
Given the built in delay there is no way short of a redesigned height computer that will make height adjustments quicker. A system that reacts too quickly to height sensor changes will be completely undriveable on other than glass smooth roads. This goes for any system not just factory.
Overall height setting and load height compensation need to be separately controlled for a safe useable system. That can't be done with the factory computer control system without adequate design info and that'll never be forthcoming.

And that means,no, the original computer can't be modified.

It can be bypassed though. Simply fit about 6 or 7 switches to the height control diagnostic connector in the boot and control height manually. The rate of rise will be directly proportional to pump capacity then. The rate of fall is proportional to vent valve sizing.

This is the post I was thinking of. Bigger pump will help if you bypass the computer it seems.

Side note, what connector in the boot is he talking about?? Are you able to take a photo of it and send it to me or post it in the other thread for me. Trying to diagnose my pump problem and getting nowhere fast :-(

Awesome Leon - Good find, I didn't see that in my original search.

Not sure of what the "height controller diagnostic connector" looks like either so if anyone else has a shot of one that would help both you and I it seems...

So from Marks info I wonder if it would be possible to connect up an aftermarket height controller (like the ASC600) etc to the diagnostic connector to manage the up/down rate with a bigger pump/change in vent sizing? This way the factory computer is still controlling TEMS and not upsetting normal driving height...Gee I wish Mark was still around these forums!!

Possible???

Wonder if Joe remembers, might have to give him a quick buzz on monday.

Not sure how those height controllers work, would need to see a pinout or something I guess. Will take some thinking!!

For now I can't do much without knowing where that port is.

Agree with you Mark was a very smart bloke!

Does anyone have any further info to add to this thread? Anyone find the 'Height Control Diagnostic connector" that Mark mentioned? Anyone actually achieved this modification?...

http://soarercentral.com/sc-forum/messages/30604/209918.html contains a pic of the diag connector.

If it's actually there I can't say, as I don't have bags

Nice - thanks Darryn...

In another discussion it was mentioned that any after market height controller should provide immediate movement of the factory bags although still at a slow pace. If this is the case then the combination of an A/M controller and potentially a larger compressor/hoses will provide at least an improvement over stock?
