I'm not really sure what's going on with my soarer here. I haven't had much time to have a look over it, but i figured i'd post and see if anyone had any ideas of where to start.

The other day my power stearing pump discharged it's fluid onto the alternator, the result was a lot of smoke and a rather dead alternator.

I have not fixed either yet as i've left the car in the back yard for a few weeks due to working hours.... The suspension has gone down too far for the car to be moved now (wheel arches are sitting on the tires) and the pump doesn't kick in at all.

So the first question that's came to mind is; is the car smart enough to know the alternator isn't charging so it turns the pump off to save power?

Is the battery dead now?
You need to remove the alternator anyway and see if it can be repaired
The main problem is why did your PS pump dump it's fluid?

V8's dumping PS fluid into the alternator is a common problem. Have you tried a fresh battery?

Battery is charged enough to turn the motor over fine and run the car.

However the EMV screen brings up some white text then turns off but as far as i know this is normal when the alternator is dead. This is why i figured it might turn the pump off at the same time.

Is there a computer bypass or something in one of the diag ports? So i can just directly run the pump to move the car, i only need to get it up to fit a jack under it.... lol

Okie dokie, so i figured i'd have a play with the compressor this morning.

Unplugged the cable that connects to the compressor and hooked it up to the battery, unfortunately the only fuses i have for inline setups are 15amp, so it blew after a few seconds, but the compressor did run fine!

So, if the compressor ran fine, this means that it's not receiving power when the engine turns on, checked fuse under the hood, it's fine.

So, could the computer be shutting it off due to a lack of power? Or could there be another fuse?

(Only dash error i'm getting is the alternator not charging battery warning)

Please help, i'm really getting bored with my McBackup car.... farm 4x4 is a bit of a change from the soarer

Got myself a new alternator today and installed it now suspension works perfectly again.

So I figure I'll post this up just in case anyone else has a similar problem and gets a fright like it did.

The car does seem smart enough to cut off the compressor when the alternator isn't charging.
