Hi, just wanted to know if it was possible to repair the front TEMS shocks I took out of my PoVVo PaK 91 TT.
I replaced them with after market air shocks, but wasn't happy with the out come.
So happy, I can't even remember the brand!!!!
Anyway, was wondering if anyone had ever bothered to get them repaired, or is there someone out there that fixes them.
Cheers Fran

It might be worth pricing new ones too.

Yes I agree with you Blake, the reason for the povvo statement is that although the strut tops say TEMS on them, and the shocks were wired in, there is no switches anywhere that are dedicated to TEMS, and as I understand, the PWR NORM ECT switch, which works with the auto gearbox, is supposed have some influence over the suspension management, but it never seemed to affect the it behaved on the road switched to PWR or NORM.
Only changes felt, are that the gears change quicker, or are held longer during acceleration.
I've heard that there could be a switch in the boot, but unless I dismantle it, I cannot visually locate it. Gave it a "boy look" and didn't see it LOL!

And yeah, you're probably right Pete, I should just see if it worth pricing them.
Do you think our friendly local Toyota bloke can assist with these, or would I need the assistance of someone that knows what an actual Soarer looks like?

The struts are probably dead, similar to the parking pole and reversing sensor that so many of them are fitted with. Head to Castle Hill Toyota, most other dealerships will just give you a filthy.

Castle Hill huh!!
Yeah, I bought some plastic snap door handle clips from them about 12 months ago, because no one new what I was talking about and even showing them what the clip looked like, no one could match it.
And the dude I spoke to on the phone up there knew exactly what I was after.
Cheers for the reminder Jose.

your TEMS sounds the same as mine. please note that the turbo soarers with TEMS don't have the switch in the boot.

Hi Blake.
Do they have a switch at all, to activate or de-activate?

No probs Fran, remember that the ECT switch controls the TEMS in early models. In late model turbo models there's a separate switch. The TEMS effect is a lot more noticeable between the early and late models (I've owned both), but then again the two TEMS shocks are different, even though that they're both turbo models.

Just in regards to the pricing of the front suspension...
I have TEMS in my '91 JZZ30 manual. Although I can't really tell that they work all that effectively (after 130000 km you couldn't expect much from a strut, they're well and truly due for replacement), they're not the airbag type and are ready to come out. I got a quote on a genuine Toyota replacement strut and I was told they were about $1000 PER STRUT, but Toyota don't have any more in stock. So even if you did want a genuine replacement, Toyota can not longer help you.

Ahh well.

the switch in the boot would be for switching off the airbags to jack the car off the ground or change a tyre.

WOW !! $1000 a strut !!

brand new airbags are $880 each. if i had to replace "ONE" id go for coilover's

Tems is switched between soft and medium via the ECT button..... Norm = soft .

Although if you want Hard.. Do the Track Day setting.. Search for it :-)
