Since fitting two new rear tyres I have a cycling vibration when travelling at speed (say 90-120kph). It's OK but just a little annoying if I find myself becoming aware of it. Anyone else had this and if so what did they do about it?

Mike, whenever there is a vibration from a certain speed to a certain speed, you can almost always assume it is due to improper tire balance. I suggest you take the car back to the tire shop and have them put each tire on the balance machine. Some shops actually charge a separate price for balancing your new tires. If you paid for this service it probably says so on your invoice. If not, you can check the tires by moving the front ones to the back (and vice versa). If the vibration goes away, you most definatly have a tire balance problem. Sometimes a wheel weight can come off throwing the tire off balance.

What I meant by cycling vibration was that the vibration comes and goes at about 4-5 second intervals at the speeds mentioned. It's as if there are some harmonics going on somewhere.

The most effective balance I have found is on-car. It costs more of course.
Given that they are comparatively cheap tyres (not having a go at you at all) it is not certain you will get rid of the vibration given the symptoms you describe. It could be a construction fault beyond a bit of weight imbalance but you should have a decent chance of solving it.

If you got the wheels balanced the same place you got the tyres it's probably the balance. I used 5 years in Sydney finding a place that would do a proper balance.
Go to a race driving support outfit and let them do it. Often it's just apprentices that do the balance at tyre marts and they never learn how to do it properly.
I've even had it done by Pedders and they couldn't do it either.

We have major problems in NA with the factory aluminum wheels that come with our GMs. It seems a large amount of them are prone to bead leaks and balance problems. I've taken the wheels off of several, and was amazed to find the pile of weights the factory had to put on them to balance them. Most of the complaints from people around here are those two problems. Usually, the balance probs are caused by a wheel weight flying off.

There used to be a company in Sydney that would jack your car up and grind off the tyres to make them round. Not sure if there is any such thing anymore. Of course this would slightly reduce the wear but at least you would be saving your suspension.
