I have a slight rattle in the rear end everytime i hit a bump, everyone tells me the struts are .
how do they become can they just be regassed?

They become because you them

A rattle could be anything. A better check is whether the rear end tends to skip sideways when you hit a bump or cross ridge driving around a corner. An even better check is to go to Pedders and get their $14 shock test with printed results. Just ignore any other advice or services from them unless someone you trust has identified that particular shop as a good one.

If they are failing it is almost certainly because of internal wear, not mere loss of gas or oil, so refilling would not help. Good shocks form an important part of your car's stability and safety in all transient manoeuvres (i.e. stopping, starting, turning) so buying new is a pretty good idea.

May I ask what does it mean when the back skips to the side over bumps etc?

Could be a few things, it happened to me when the rear tor-in bolt came loose allowing the wheel to self steer a bit on bumps.
