Well I just completed the replacement of my steering rack bushings. I had my soarer since november and it has always had a shimmy. I just got arround to changing the bushings. It's amazing how three little rubbers can change the handling condition of your car. After I lowered the jack I hopped in and took it for a test spin. AWWW MAN! AWESOME! Even with the shimmy the car rode smoothly but now, it feels like I'm riding on air. I think every corner that I pulled out of I did a fishtail. I actually got to feel the full power of my car today. I went straight up to, I think 180km/h. WOOOOOOOW! I was thinking about selling this now because of gas prices, but to hell with gas I think I'm gonna sell it and get one that is stick. My brother told me I need to write my will because he said he thought I used to do alot of speeding before but now.....

Wow, Im suprised i could link that picture as it s private address.
I hav no idea what brand patrick used, but superpro make them, they are the only Australian made bush
There are 2 versions available, one suited to vehicles with steering rack housing outside diameter of 47mm or one of 50mm 50mm is the more common one, but it pays to check so you dont have to send it back and swap it for the other one.
$39 per packet (one cars worth) postage would be $10 or something, and I have a few instock here

Steering Rack Bush Replacement
well guys i did this fix today..... very impressed with the results.
The old bushes were rooted to say the least. As Patrick has already stated wooooooooow.
I filled the swear jar considerable as is encountered a few hassles. i did the job on my back which is always fun.
The biggest issue i had was the top half of the top bush as i have hands like shovels it made the going quite difficult to locate the bush properly.
I worked out later to put the jack under the transmission bell housing and raise it buy an inch. very slowly, very carefully and with someone else watching jack it up.....
This allowed enough room for me to slide my hands in and push the top half of the upper bush in square. a little grease helped it slide in easily.
If i should ever have to do the job again i would do it inside of an hour however i would probably still swear considerably.
no other tips other than to follow the destructions supplied by Andrew Vlamos and i also used Peter Scotts tutorial as a picture guide.
steering is tight, more responsive, scary responsive and much better feel. If there is one negative it is that it makes you all the more aware of how rooted your other bushes are..... as the funds become available i will do these too.
Big thanks to Andrew Vlamos, prompt delivery of parts and a top guy to speak with. I was so excited about the results i called him at 6:30pm Sunday to tell him.

Old thread but worth the mention.... Also changed mine today.. They were completely stuffed.. Next to no rubber on them.. I bought the ones of eBay on the above pic (blue one's) As all have mentioned .. More precise steering.. Money well spent and very easy job.. Hardest part was un doing the bolts and nuts..
