Hey Guys,

I'm after a set of street/track rims for the Soarer. I want them to clear supra/celsior brakes as this is on the cards for me one day.

I had my heart set on buying some Supra 17s however they are ridiculously priced up around $900 plus (considering they are 10 - 15 y.o) with second hand or no tyres.

I have seen some brand new wheel/tyre packages in 17inch for around the same money. Has anyone got any suggestions or advice for me in this area.

Apart from the Supra are there many other cars with +50 offsets and decent stock rims? I know a few rear drive Toyotas from the 90s are +50 but they all seem to have 16 inch wheels.

I would also like to know what other Australian delivered cars are 5 x 114 +50. I am aware the Tarago was at some stage. This may make it easier when going to wheel places to shop for new alternatives(the one I went to the other day did not have Soarer or Supra listed!)

I know I've asked a few questions and rambled a bit but I'm tired of waiting for a decent set of wheels to fall into my lap.

It's not the offset that directly determines if they will clear larger calipers, keep that in mind.

Ben the chances are you will end up making compromises on the offset to accomodate the brakes. Roughly 70mm from the disc face is what you require.

The only factory wheels i know of are the Supra 17's. They come up from time to time. $600 will get you some with bald rubber. I have seen them go for1K with good rubber.

Some of the Lexus wheels should do, but finding them could be a problem.

Ben, I agree with Peter. I found a few sets on ebay and eventually got a set of 16" is250 wheels. Some of the other lexus wheels are 17" and come up from time to time. If your car is badged lexus then even better. The difference in changing from +30 offset to +50 was well worth it in my experience.

Yeah - thats why I was after some input from you guys. Someone must have some knowledge of what does and does not clear bigger brakes.

I would love to have the supra 17's as it is a guaranteed fit and they look better than average. I have made some attempts to buy some but as soon as I show interest they seem to either jump in price or the seller changes his mind.

I am considering buying a set of the 16 inch supras as these seem to go for around the $200-$300 mark and once I do the brakes (which could be some time) go through the hassles of finding suitable wheels again.

Agreed. I have been keeping my eye out for something suitable. The lexus badge also seems to attract a premium if you are talking to a business/dealer.

As for aftermarket wheels I would have thought with all the ricer/boy racers going for 19 and 20 inch wheels there would be loads of cheap 17 inch wheels that used to be on their Supra/Soarer/Chaser/Aristo...etc.

Yes, I have read a lot of positive feedback with regards to how much better the handling is with wheels that meet the factory geometry. I reckon this can only be a bonus considering I want them mainly for track use.
