Hi Folks,
Just about to fit new tires to my 18 inch rims. 8 * 9 front and rears. offset +50
I was going to fit 265/40/18 and 235/45/18, to fill the arches more and maintain a bit of ride comfort. The car is a TT on TEMS and standard ride height, has anyone got this combination on 18's will they foul the arches?

Thanks guys, I didn't see any problem with it I was getting advised for the same size but lower profiles, 35 on the back and 40 on the front, I don't need ultimate handling or a harsher ride!

I realise that spacers and offsets are a controversial subject for many and don't intend to create a massive debate.
+50 is the factory offset, you can run smaller offsets if you want to and spacers can be a legitimate way of acheiving that.
Good quality spacers can be certified for road use here in NZ and shouldn't cause any problems. The ideal method though would be to get rims with the desired offset however that is not always possible.
Increasing rim width or decreasing the offset will increase the loading on the suspension.
Many people, myself included, are comfortable with the tradeoffs to get a good looking wheel and tire and stance setup.

I run 18 x 8.5 rims with 245/40/18 tyre on a +46 offset up front, and 18 x 9.5 rim with 275/35/18 tyre on a +45 offset down back.
The car is lowered on coilovers, and has no clearance issues when at a legal height. If I go lower than legal I can scrub on the inside plastic liner on big bumps when the suspension is fully loaded, however this is in the centre of the wheel and has nothing to do with the width, just being stupid low.
On a side issue, when I measure the width of my rims (from edge to edge) I get 9.5 and 10.5 inch widths, but they are stamped 8.5/9.5 inside. Are there any wheel gurus that can explain how actual rim width is measured?
