I've done a search on different tyre size's for 17inch rims but cannot find the right answer for my question.Okay i have 255/40 on the rear and 245/35 on the front. Will 215/45 be okay to fit on both front and rear of my Soarer

No, not really. It depends a bit on what you assume was your starting point. Your current front tyres are illegal, being too small, and the proposed ones will be as well.
Why 215? What is wrong with 245/45 all round? Or 235 or perhaps even 225 if you are trying to save money?

The reason i ask is because i have to just get new tyres on my soarer then go and show my mechanic and he will give me my RWC.I can pick up x4 215/45 that have about 85% tread left pretty cheap that's all

I'm not planning on faking the RWC and why would i put old worn tyre's back on my car. The reason i asked was as i said the tyres i could've got have 80% tread left if not more. I just thought i'd be able to save a few $ if these tyre's were the right size for my rims. I've already got the RWC i just have to take my car in and show my mechanic that i have replaced the tyres like he asked me to then he will hand my RWC to me. My mechanic is a top bloke and a mate so i would'nt do anything stupid to cause him to lose his RWC license. Also i'm not a silly young bloke that gets around with bald tyres and a unsafe un-roadworthy vehicle. Now and again i'll pick up a set of second hand tyres that have 80% to 95% tread on them but the place i get them from has'nt any in stock. So it looks like i'll just have to go with brand new set. I just thought i may be able to save a few $ as i have just brought my first house and i'm trying to get my own business up and running a.s.a.p that's all.

245/45 ZR17 all around is the way to go if both front and rear rims are the same width. There are loads of tyres to choose from in this size so you should be able to find a good quality budget tyre.

Glad to hear it
What is your rim width? If the rim is the appropriate width then all of the following will fit and all of them will be legal, with the asterisked ones being the best six for closeness to original (two stars for top 3): 50 profile (rim around7.5") 225/50 ** 235/50 45 profile (rim around 8"-9") 235/45 * 245/45 ** 255/45 ** 265/45 40 profile (require at least a 9" rim) 255/40 265/40 *

haha ive put 225's on 10 inch rims before...no worries! if your going for the awesome stretched look! just beware of the load rating, soarers being heavy and all need a decent sized tyre,or you WILL get blowouts, see it to often

225 at what wheel size and with what profile? Your post is meaningless without that information.
Admittedly, I can not find a 225 of any profile down to 30 or wheel size up to 20" for which a 10" width rim is within ordinary specification. I guess that "stretched" refers to safety as much as the tyre.

Like to thank you all for the help i went and got tyres today then dropped past my mechanic and picked up my RWC.I got 235/45 front and 255/40 rear i got Falken ZE-329 and Brigstone Potenza RE050A.These tyres are brand new i know that they are different brand tyres but for the price i got them for i could'nt say no.Has anyone ever used these tyres? if so what is your opinion on them? i did have Nankang are they any better than what i have on now? oh! also does it matter that the front and rear treads are differant.

It does not matter that you have different tyre brands, sizes and treads front to rear, so long as you are aware of the handling effects. One tyre/tread will grip better than another.
