Guys I have Teins(not sure what model) on the car and was told it had been set up for drifting. Now the ride is great if you are pushing the car through corners, but find it a touch hard for the crap roads around me.
Thought that as I have 18x 235 front and 18x 275 rears that on standard suspension the ride would be firm anyway?

1.Can I adjust the shocks I have and if so how ?
2.As the car is lowered and the guards pumped
would standard shocks make it look like cat with a roman candle up its jacksie?.
3. If someone has a set of standard shocks that I could borrow(with a view to buying) to test the ride and also see how it sits that would probably be ideal.

Advise and sugestions on how to fix this please
let me know of your experience.

Man I wouldn't swap Tein for stock, no way. Just adjust your dampening..... the little knobs on top of your suspension in the boot and under the bonnet. A little trial and error should see you sort out the desired softness.

Hi, If you have the drift spec ones (same as me) you dont get the little knobs for dampening adjustment.

ive only just got rid of my standard set up and with a set of 17s it defenately didnt look silly as it was...

my standard ones had TEMS, the ride was fairly firm but still was a VERY noticable difference in the dampening when changed as we too have alot of bad roads! has loads less body roll now though...

So on those shocks there is no adjustment?.
I had a set of Spax coil overs on another car and you could adjust them by opening or closing an internal valve if you removed the springs.

By the way thanks for the pics like the car, looks smooth and good choice of wheels.

Can I tell what rate springs I have by the thickness of the coil as I have been told there is no markings on them?

If you have the same ones as me then no there isnt dampening adjustment just height, but check at the top for the knobs or twisty bits anyway as you could have a flex setup in which case they may very well be adjustable

erm finding out exactly what you have is proberbly the best way to find out your spring rate.

thanks for your comment, as you can see there is not TOO much difference visually with the standard setup on although obviously it could go down more yet...

but im quite happy keeping my splitter attached to the car for the moment

Are they Tein coilovers or just Tein shocks?

If they are coilovers then the cheap base model Tein don't have damping adjustment.

To change them you would need to go to a complete new set of springs and shocks. A lot of people like the Eibach and Bilstein combo for the Supra's and you can put threaded sleeves on the shocks for a little bit of adjustment.

I'm thinking about getting a set of tein adjustable coil overs for my V8 in the new year...

Are there any reasons not to go for these suspension systems? Are they made up in Japan etc?

Mike, I would decide what you want out of a suspension setup and then make a decision based on that.

The reality for a daily driver/weekend car is that damping and height adjustment isn't really necessary.

One of the recent Performance Car Super Lap winners was a Supra with a set of Bilstein shocks and King springs, completely non adjustable.

If you go with adjustable suspension it will need to be certified.

In terms of damping capability it's pretty hard to beat the Bilstein's.

I just installed TEIN FLEX adjustable coilovers in My TT and I love them. I've got the car sitting about an inch lower then stock and have the dampers on their softest setting for street driving.

They are still agressive and I do feel the road but I like the set up a lot.

height adjustable at least i feel is worth having then if u change your bumpers, wheels etc ever it means u havnt got to buy new suspension or change the springs

Can I change the springs then and would standard soarer springs fit in the coilovers?

Do Kings Springs make replacement springs with a different rate to suite the Teins

You are right Matt these do not have adjusters though from what I have heard nothing Tein makes is cheap.
Not a fan of the Bilsteins, they have let me down before.

By the way nice wheels what style/brand are they?

Hmmm I'm after something that would be predominately suitable for the track as I wont be using this Soarer too much for regular road use soon, so good damping will be essential.

Would you go for a specific set of Bilsteins for the track?

The coilover springs are smaller than the standard Soarer or King/Eibach springs so you can't swap them.

Bilstein is one of the world leader in dampers, not sure what your past experiences were but tons of people rate them, myself included.

Mike, couldn't really recommend a track damper as I don't have any track experience.

The height adjustment on most mid range coilovers is only perch adjustment which doesn't actually offer much adjustment.

It also affects the spring preload which alters the springs performance.

A decent set of platform adjustable coilvers with 32 way independent damping and rebound adjustments are big $$$.

The midrange coilovers don't offer massive benefits over the Bilstein/Eibach compo for most street cars in my opinion. Here in NZ the suspension is certified at a specific height so once they are set that is it pretty much.
