Hi all , The power steering is making labouring noises when the steering is moved the slightest . So i'm assuming the pump is knackered, the car has 168k on the clock so its no surprise , just wondering if anyone knows how much a replacement is worth and i think ill probably get the mechanic to have a crack at this one. So how much is the job worth ..any help appreciated Owen w .

Have you just replaced the fluid or had some work done that would allow air to become trapped in the system?
When I fitted mt power steering cooler, it made a horrible noise. Following the manual, I turned the wheel from lock to lock a few times pausing on each extreme. This bleeds air bubbles out of the system, and fixed my horrible noise.
Maybe this is your issue?
If not, I imagine it would be a straight parts swap to change over pumps. I would have a look at the manual before deciding to fork out your hard earned at $70 bucks an hour.

Yeah that probably a good idea , the car has been fairly idle for the past 6 months, so i dont know if that has caused maybe something in the pump to perish. The pump seems to be really struggling to turn the wheels aswell , and it does feel pretty heavy. So ill give that a go , otherwise ill just buy a case and some parts and give it a go and possibly some help from my mechanic mates. cheers
