Jol, it may happen that the police do not notice although if they pull you over for any reason they may take an interest. No calculations needed, they just have to read the size and call base for a bureaucrat to check, or simply send you over the pits which is a cost even if you are legal.

More importantly, if you should have a prang, your fault or not, then you will be uninsured if your (or the other party's) company takes an interest in the state of your car at the time. If someone should be injured, then investigations will quickly become more thorough and your civil or criminal liability will cost you more, perhaps even a dash of gaol time.

Don't worry about that though, because in compensation you will have your fifteen minutes of fame as the press uses you as a rather good example of stupid behaviour with cars.

err, the biggest problem here is we are mixing and matching wheel widths with the desired goal.

Very simple.
1) Try to keep the overall rolling diameter (or tyre height) of the wheel/tyre combo close to stock.
2) Use the approriate tyre width for the wheel width.

All this talk of 245's with the wrong aspect ratio and fitting on 15" wheels, the 15" soarer wheels are only 6.5" wide, 245s are meant for 8.5" wide wheels!

Don't buy Soarer wheels then :-)

I agree, I was just making the point they were too big on a 16 if a 55 profile was used.

Jamie, if your proposed rear tyres are on 16" rims rather than 15" then they are simply illegal, being both >3% and >15mm larger than stock. Either you have mis-stated the dimensions or you are an ass.

It would be sensible either to do some research first or to make clear that you are basing your advice on laws in another country. You would not want anyone you advise to suffer as a result of careless ignorance.

Hi,
My Tyre Saga has finally been put to rest. The Mayrun tyres (German Technology & Co made in China) ordered had 92v load and speed rating stamped on them. Not the 96v originally quoted. I need 93v, So they went back at their expense.
I just bought a set of new TOYO Proxies FZ4 245/50/16 on Ebay which will cost $150ea landed here and fitted. Local guys best quote $220ea fitted.
Hopefully I will not need to visit this thread for a while and Thanks to all helped.
