hey all. Im wondering, can the tems suspension be installed in a soarer that doesn't have it?
ive seen it around but i don't know what it "actually" does. all i know is that you can adjust the suspension by a button in the car near the gearstick. correct me if im wrong but yeah that's what i think.

Yeah, Some TT's have TEMS (Toyota's Electronically Modulated Suspension) and it is controlled by the button beside the gearknob.

You can switch the button between normal / pwr etc mode.

Power ECT mode stiffens up your suspension a touch (Not that I can feel it?) and does a few other things with gearing.

Not too sure about the installation though, me thinks it'd be quite hard, as you'd have to fiddle with a LOT of electrical parts...

Grab some in car adjustable coilovers if thats your aim (tein etc.)

just that feature makes the car cool.

TEMS only control bump/rebound rates, not height as I assume you want by mentioning V8s.
V8 TEMS has nothing to do with height control - UZZ31 V8s use airbags instead of coils as found in UZZ30/JZZ30/JZZ31 Soarers to raise/lower suspension height and UZZ32 V8s use hydraulics/nitrogen rams instead of coils as found in UZZ30/JZZ30/JZZ31 Soarers and shocks as found in UZZ30/UZZ31/JZZ30/JZZ31 Soarers to raise/lower suspension height.

so the power/norm ect mode does nothing to the fuel mapping by the ecu?? only alters the gear-changes (i assume holds 2nd for longer) and the suspension stiffness?

Shane.

If you put your car into 2nd, and take off from a standing start, the car WILL take off in first.

If you put power on, and put in in second, the car will lock into 2nd gear, and take off and stay in second.

morgan - yeah, i learnt that one the kinda hard way - did a skidpan training day about 2 months after i got the car, mainly shorter motorkhana courses, so i thought i'd be smart and keep power on, but leave it in second so it wasnt trying to change into third at all.....went home wondering why i struggled to light up the rears on takeoff, and why it had felt kinda slow....maybe cos i was taking off in 2nd all day!

i was asking bout the power switch, cos i was wanting to make sure that it wouldnt interfere with the tune once ive got the digital fuel adjuster fitted by changing any of the fueling or ignition. i was under the impression that the "power" switch in some cars actually altered the fueling and engine ecu....
