I'm 90% sure that i'm going to purchase G-max Defiant wheels for my soarer

Upload

I don't want the change in wheel to to make my driving experience worse. I just what to ensure i'm doing everything right. Some opinions on here would be great; especially regarding tyres.

At this point I will purchase 18s might go 19s; undecided.

So 18x9 G-max defiant for all four, with 5/114.3 fitment and 45+ offset.

For tyres I was thinking 235??(I'm abit confused)

I've got stock suspension.

Cheers,
George

235 will not fit on a 9" rim correctly.

You will want to fit 265 wide tyre.

A 235 will fit with stretching the tyre. Depends on what your doing, if you have big power then the more tread you want in contact with the ground. If you hitting the hills your better off putting a slightly smaller tyre on the rims to stretch it and reduce side wall flex quite a fair bit over a 265. So on a 9' rim you will be fine a 235 just dont go too small like a 215 otherwise you run the risk of it popping off the bead the less thread you go and you also have a smaller contact patch with the ground.

Slightest bit of damage to a 9" wheel and a 235 can fall off it. Ask me how I know. No don't.

265 on the front would require guards to be rolled wouldnt they?

I'd say so Ali. Why don't you run a staggered arrangement. I'm running 235/40/18 front 265/35/18 rear on I think 8 and nine 9 inch wheels. 235s are A LOT cheaper than 265 and they still occasionally scrub on my car even though I'm running 16kg springs so I wouldn't get 265s on the front George.
Go for 19s, 18s don't fill the guards properly. Nice choice too, mesh rims are the best style for soarers in my opinion.

yeh im not so happy with my 18s, they dont fill out the guards like Sebastian said. 19s are the way to go..8in fronts and 9inch rears should do good

235's on a 19" will ruin your ride comfort. Might not be important to you.

Plus 19/20" wheels always look like stage coach wheels (for spoked designs) or bottle tops/dinner plates on Soarers - Soarers just don't suit very large wheels, they are way too curvy and chunky for them - yes, thats just my opinion and its all personal tastes, but worth considering?

i had the same opinion a few months ago, but 18s dont really do the MASSIVE guards any justice..you definitely need 19s. 20s are too much though

All depends on what colour they are also. I saw a set similar to the wheels pictured in black with chrome dish on a Holden ute and thought they were 18s. Turns out they were 20s.

for the difference in rim and tyre prices either go with 18" 225/45/18 front and 255/45/18 rear. For the 20" 235/40/20 front and 255/40/20. so that you dont get scrubbing

19" tyres are dearer than 20" tyres.

Agreed.

What are G-Max wheels anyway... I've never heard of them. Chinese stuff? I would stick with proven, quality brands personally or OEM wheels.

When did 19" tyres become cheaper than 20" tyres. I think the only reason why you think that is because not many of the "good" tyre manufacturers make 20s sp you only have the option of buying cheap brands like nankang etc.

G-max are an Australian company based in Perth.
http://www.gmaxwheels.com/

I think I'm going to go for 19s; i'm putting a vertex kit on, so I think 18s won't fill the wheel arches. I went to Jax Quickfit to get a rough quote for them today. They recommended:
For the front 19x8 with 245/35R19 Falken FK452
For the rear 19x9 with 275/30R19 Falken FK452
with wheel alignment, wheel nuts and a set of locknuts for $2860.

I think I'm going to shop around.
What are some well known/trusted brands?
