Hi guys, I'm not too experienced with suspension etc.
Just went for a test-drive in the soarer I am wanting to buy which has coilovers. I think they are some el-cheapo ones cause when going a speedhump at 30km/h, it was very rigid and unsmooth. Felt as if the front lip hit the speedhump. When reversing the car onto the road I also heard some crackling coming from the suspension.
Basically the mechanic said that the suspension is very tight or else the tyre would rub.. so you need to take speedhump slow. I have the option of putting stock suspension back on or keeping the coilovers.
In the future I am thinking about throwing a front, side and rear kit on the car. The car already has 18's by the way.
Here is a link to the car: http://www.uniquecarsales.com.au/pls/carsales/!unique_content.enquiry?current_rec=6&page_number=1&vehicle_id=7390741&total_rec=44&sort_type=1&make _id=8&model_id=140&price_max=20000&state_id=7&photo_flag=1
Many coils are quite rough compared to stock suspension, so you might get a feeling that there is something wrong with them when there is not.
$10500 is way overpriced for a non turbo Soarer. Most dealers are stupid, dumb and retarded at the best. Some flattering quotes from that page
"Bargain Price wont last long." - Yeah I don't think that price would last long before he changes it to something more acceptable. You can get Twin Turbo's in the $8000 - $10,000 Range.
For it to be worth that amount, I'd expect it to be Ultra Clean, and no problems at all.

yeah my soarer has tein super streets and they are a lot stiffer than the stock springs. going over bumps, pot holes, etc it can get a bit uncomfortable. i found the stock springs were comfortable but just couldnt compete with the performance of aftermarket coilovers. no offence to anyone who loves stock suspension. i have a pretty low body kit at the moment and it can get a bit annoying going up every driveway sideways. depends on what you prefer warren

Thanks for your input guys.
Reason why I am paying such a price is for a non turbo is because I am on my P's and cannot drive TT or V8. P-plate legal soarers tend to high a slightly more expensive price due to this reason. Also the ride is black on black with black leather interior, only 100k on the odo, 18" rims and coilovers.
I obviously won't be paying 10.5 for it, that's what they are asking. My goals were to negotiate anywhere from 1-2k off the asking price by paying cash etc. It also needs 100k major service which I would use in my negotiations.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated. May even start a thread asking for suggestions about the specific soarer I am looking at and if it seems like a decent choice.

Did your mechanic check the condition of the control arm bushes, steering rack bushes, ball-joints, sway-bar bushes etc. These are some of the suspension parts that are going to wear more rapidly with 18" rims and stiff shock-absorbers fitted. Can be very expensive to fix, too.

I also heard some crackling coming from the suspension.
I would have this checked out thoroughly (ie. a Pedders 28 point safety check or similar) before even considering making an offer.

Warren my SC300 cost me $3500 and it is in immaculate condition, interior is like a new car and the engine and box runs like a dream, yes it has stocko wheels but mate it doesnt cost $7k for a set of nice wheels. Even if you want to buy a new set of Coilovers it will only set you back around $1500.
Trust me mate thats a lot to pay for a SC300.
As for the coilovers they are a very uncomfy ride compared to the stock Shocks.
Just some input for you to think about man.
Mate when mine is painted I will sell you mine for $10,500 and thats with 18inch Chrome wheels, Vertex Body Kit, Custom Carbon Fibre look interior and a spare set of coilovers to change back and forth with your stock shocks if you want hehe.
Way too expensive in my opinion....but if you want to buy it buy mine instead
