Hello im looking at buying some second hand Work vs xx wheels but how do i tell if they are the real thing or knock offs ? as they are an expensive wheel i want to make sure that they are real and not a cheap imitation with vs xx stamped on them.

Get them to take a photo of the back of the wheel for you.. If they are fake i would doubt that they would be a 3 peice wheel.
From that pic they look real. As with the work vs xx chrome the front of the spokes are really chrome and shinny but the sides are quite dull and dont look polished at all. My VS XX are the same.
Thats all I can think of.. anyone else got any ideas?

They look genuine from the photo. As Scott said, they should have a sticker with size/offset and also the date of manufacture (my Volk's have this, not sure about Work's)

Yeah they are genuine. Ususal Work anodizing starting to f*ck up on the outer band, the standards (JWL) punched into the centre near the wheel cap, plus the genuine work valve cap. The gradient of the lip is also the more recent Work style, less of a dish appearance.
Be aware that you cant polish those outer rims without stripping the anodizing first, so unless you want to sand them (days of work) or send them to a wheel refurbisher like Depulu (about $220 each for the works), then thats about how good they are going to look from now on.
