I have a few questions and a thread such as this may help some others later on.

I have some drag wheel/tyre questions to pick the brains of established members with.

1. what steel wheels will fit under the back of a soarer?

2. would say a 16" falcon stocky be lighter than a supra 16"?

3. would having a 9" wheel + 255 tyre be better than and 8" + 255 tyre, reguarding sidewall flex.

4. places and PRICES to acquire a set of MT ET Streets.

i ask as i want to get a set as my 19*9.5" with 265, i cant launch with any boost, and want a proven combo that will.

discuss.

Are you talking about ET Streets or ET Street Radials?

Supra wheels are quite heavy, however, you have no problem with offsets. Toyotas tend to like high offsets (+40 to +50), so often wheels with the correct stud pattern from Ford, Nissan, etc can be a tight fit. Or not fit at all without rolling guards, etc.

I bought a set of factory *option* Aristo rims which are 16x7.5 front and 16x8.5 rear (standard Aristo rims are 7.5 rear). They are quite light, and will have no problem with the MT ET Street radial 255/50/16 I plan to put on them.

I think Rocket Industries are the main distributor for MT tyres (someone correct me if I'm wrong). You might be able to get your workshop to buy from them at trade price, otherwise you can order straight from them AFAIK.

Sorry I can't be more help with the other queries.

supra 17x8s weigh a bit under 10kg. Same weight as my lightweight Manaray sports wheels(in the same size).

For drag, I reckon you decide on the tyre you want to run and then find rims to suit.

Is wheel width going to make much difference for a drag car? As long as the tyre walls can flex properly to keep the tread on the track anyway?

Ben;
I actually measure the space i had under the guards and then went looking for a rim to suit.
I got close to what i needed.
Then it was time to choose full slicks (cloth belts) or semi slick (steel belts)
you are not allowed to run both at the same time
EG; radial fronts and cloth rears.
it MUST be either full radials or full cloth.
I went full cloth (as i have plans for the rims later)on the van
what i did find was tyre sizes would sit wider than what was stated.
eg; 10" tyre would sit 12" at side walls.
My rears are a 10" wide rim with a 6.5" back set and a 3.5" front.
You can get some amazingly wide rims just by reversing my rims and thay are available.
would be great for a wide body kit on a soarer .hehehe yer i have all ready thought about it.
with the slick it will grow in dia when spun.
On a 26"-28" dia tyre you could expect around 2-3" larger in dia.
So in my case i all ready have tubbed the rear so i could fit 265's under the arse when the van was driving on the road.
as it happens i was lucky to have enough room to spin these slicks up as well.

15's don't clear TT rear brakes.

Just go for a pair of supra 16's for the rear they are nice and light and cheap.

I was running 255/55/16's and managed a couple of 1.6 60ft times.

When I get my car running some decent times I will be swapping to V8 rear brakes and running 15" tyres with full slicks and front runners.

cheers rob.

where do people get their et-streets from (yes ive searched) AND how much did you pay.

as i just got a price from autobahn for 460 a tyre... considering they had a set of 15 275odd full slicks for 320ea on the floor i walked out.

do i have to go through rocket? they dont have advertised prices, whats an acceptable price to pay for a pair of 255/50/16's

cheers guys,
Marc
