Who has ever had a clunk in the rear suspension? I have changed struts and checked the upper and lower arm bushes but couldn't find anything that would sound as drastic as this, like the rear is wanting to fall out. It is totally stable on corners. When I put a jack under the subframe I can push it up about nearly 1/2" on the main bushes that seem to hold the sub frame to the body. Could these be the problem, it has been running very hard suspension so I am guessing that the answer will come from someone who has run Teins? If it is the subframe bushes, can I get them and who has every replaced them. It looks like the whole frame has to come out, big job. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks in advance John

I used to get a clunk on 90° right hand bends taken at moderate speed. Replacing the transmission mount solved the problem. Best $100 you will ever spend on a Soarer. Also worth spending five minutes checking the exhaust system for movement as impact with the frame can sometimes make noises that sound much more solid they they really are.

Hi Spencer, Thanks for responding. After looking at the drawings on Dave Cazes' post, the bushes that I am thinking are suspect are holding the whole subframe up to the body at the rear. See my picture.
Are all the components on the V8 the same as the TT? Bush "1" on the rear subframe schematic appears to be an up and down bush (SPF2553K)which just sures up the original rather than replacing the bush. Is this sought of thing possible with the bush that I am referring to? The bush that you mention, SPF3269K, is a horizontal bush not a vertical bush. I hadn't noticed any movement anywhere else except on the vertical plane (up and down)? Also the diagram says that if the problem is SPF3269K it needs to be pressed. I am away from home for a few days and can't picture things exactly as they are in the diagrams in that they don't seem to include the bush that I think is the problem. Look forward to clarification on this. Thanks John

Thanks Spencer Thats the best option at this stage. All soarers have a floating subframe, they are desinged to move a bit, but yours is excessive. The locking rings are a cheap easy fix to the problem. I would guess at them staying effective for at least 5 years. To replace the subframe bushes completely is very costly, with pedders charging $1000 + parts usually.
I can sell any of this gear through my new work at JMS in Adelaide. Prices should be similar too, it just might take a few days to ship them as I am too busy here

Hi Dave, You are replying to Spencer by saying that his movement is excessive and that his option is best at this stage. What is the locking rings thing? I need to do something with the clunk/rattle that I have in my car, it is quite bad, and seems like my rear end is falling out. Regards John
