the hubcentric rings, do just that, they make sure the wheel is centered on the hub, as without them the wheel even when bolted wont be centered causing all sorts of chaos.
mine were tapped on and i cannot remove them without braking them off.
as for your new rims, if they are the right PCD they will bolt on, then you just have to worry about the offset, stock is 50, but it doesn't have to be anywhere near that really, just might get rubbing etc.
p.s. the days of 15" wheels are long gone, nice bbs style 17/18s can be had for not much money.
p.p.s TT soarers came out with a 16" spare so one will fit in your car, its not so much the height of the wheel more-so the width, turf the spare for a can of tyre weld.
