I wouldn't buy used suspension parts unless you knew everything about them. You just don't know how much life is left in them.
On the original question, the D2 brand doesn't have much of a following in the motorsport arena. If you want cheap coilovers try the HSD range- there are a few of us running them. You could also try the Pedders extreme (whatever) as whilst they might be rebranded generic coilovers (not known for sure), at least they are sold by a reputable Australian business who has to meet and comply with various trade practices acts, statuatory warrantees, and has a name to protect.
(We all have heard about the franchise problems in some individual pedders branches when it comes to servicing, but their product line up is a national corporate thing and I doubt they would risk their image on absolute rubbish)
Racing Logic are another brand you could try- there are a bunch of drift teams using them.
I would make your selection based on the specs (spring rate, adjustability etc). Tein, through Fulcrum, have stuff designed for the Aussie conditions. I have had a set for about 5 years on the street car. HSD will let you choose your spring rate. Not sure on the rest.

il be ordering the new generation of BC coilovers next week. The BC br Range which are the gold and black ones. The red ones are the first gen, which is what the pedders coilovers are
Pretty good reviews over the forums, and for the price there nearly unbeatable. Getting better reviews than HSD are at the moment

A mate of mine had some bc coilovers in his aristo and is putting them in his forester. They are a good coilover for the price and I believe they are adr approved.
I bought some second hand hsd coilovers from a fellow sc member. They were supposed to have only done 5000kms when I purchased them. I've done about that again and one of them is leaking. It is only going to cost $200 to fix but I have to get the coilover out etc which means time off the road so I'll be getting the next gen BC coilovers as well and selling my hsd's. I can't say this is a design fault with hsd however as my car has gone clean over a median strip before at low speed but still, it may have contributed to their early demise.
What spring rates are you going for Scott? I think they recommend 14f 10r. Mine are currently 18f 12r haha.
I wouldnt mind some insight if this would be suitable or if i should ask for slightly stiffer spring rates, it is a street car and i am in tassie(crap roads) but the car is lucky to come out on weekends lol.

the genuine distributor is said to be a tool to deal with.
Long story short, he's a tool and an idiot.
With our mods I would think that 10r would be a better option to help with axel tramp. The good thing is replacement springs are dirt cheap, around $70 each from memory.

14/8 sounds good for a daily driver. I have same or similar rates with the Tein Super streets. I would not like to have my HSDs on my daily. The rate are much stiffer, and would just get annoying I reckon.

What rate are your hsd's ben? Mine are 18f12r. They aren't very good on most roads but when you find a nice series of smooth bends it's hard to believe how well they make my soarer handle. Hit a decent bump mid corner and it's another story though.

I'd have to go look it up in my notes to be exact, but I am pretty sure they are the same as yours. It is the generic rates they used to put on the Supras and Soarers. I think they copped a bit of flack about the streetability and then put softer springs as the default setting. Back when I bought mine every coilover you could buy was aimed at the budding drifter, except the Tein Super Streets.
I tried to find the rating of the stock stuff but cannot remember if I ever did. I have a table drawn up with all the coilovers and spring rates that were available when I was looking around.

I have a set of Teins (HA) fully adjustable for height and damper. The rears have been completely rebuilt and driven only 50klms and the fronts have been checked by Fulcrums and are in top condition. I want $800 if anyone is interested. If you ask Tein, which I did, they would sell you New Super streets to replace them for $2500 less any discount you could swing with them). This must be the best deal around. Cheers John

Scot, keep us informed on your new coils. I am looking at a changeover from airbags to coils. My car is for everyday driving on Sydney roads. I don't race or drift so comfort is more important.

Still waiting for my coilovers to arrive. In the meantime I read something about camber plates, do you need those with Soarer coilovers? The ones I ordered does not come standard with camber plates. They are optional extras. $120 a pair plus postage for camber plates with 2 bearings.
