If you plan on running 20" rims.. Make sure you RAISE the suspension..
I have just spent hours finding why a V8 wont start only to trace it back to Right Hand Front Wheel has rubbed through the harness and stripped back heaps of wires..

Increasing wheel size should not matter if the tyre profile is changed to keep the outside diameter within 3%. The inference is that the tyre is also wider here, and that caused the problem. You can equally achieve this with a wide 15" wheel as with a 20".

Aah, let me see, Miles. Profile, no problem, but the width could be just a little bit of an issue. How about a 215/30 or a 185/35 .
Yes, I do believe you have identified a key issue of market limitations here.
Sorry, I was just reiterating the principle. You are quite right of course. I realise that in reality the tyre is going to be at least far too wide. I saw the car at Neil's today when picking up mine and you can certainly see the problem. The guards are stuffed full of wheel with a liquorice of tyre and a bunch of wiring diagrams in the footwell, no doubt recently consulted in Neil's effort to get it going again.
I rerouted mine to above the intercooler pipe, rather than underneath it. Yes, I did this after it scrubbed through it when the car was too low. I raised the car and rerouted the harness. I'm sure I've mentioned this before.

Simon, I've thought about rerouting those wires as I started to scrape but put it in the too hard basket and raised my suspension a tad. Was it difficult to do?
- Jack the car up - Remove driver's side wheel - Remove plastic from under guard to get access to intercooler pipe that goes from engine bay into guard. Loosen clamp. - Go under bonnet and loosen other end of intercooler piping. - Remove intercooler piping. - Move wiring harness around cooler pipe, and refit pipe. - Do everything back up in opposite order.

Obviously I have no intercooler piping but when i was poking around in there it looked difficult to move it elsewhere... was that the wiring harness directly above the wheel which you moved?
Whoops. It's easier on the TT then. Never seen under a V8 guard.
Yes, it is the harness that travels directly over the wheel, but the section which causes problems is actually near the front of the wheel. That's how I used the cooler piping to keep it away.

there is definately a difference Michael as i also went from 18's with never a scrape to 20's which "scuff" the drivers inner guard all the time (but thats what stereos are for!!!)

Dominik that was me.
i have 20s, i rubbed through some of the wires on the way home from buying the 20s, resulting in blown fuses and headlights getting stuck on highbeam, indicators staying on etc etc. i was lucky, could have been worse.
When i got home i cut all the wires in the middle and re-routed them through the engine bay. No lengthening of wires required. solder, heatshrink, taped and loomed up. almost looks like it was meant to be there.

Any ideas if there's any wiring under the passanger side front? This could be what's causing my issues possibly... *hugs soarercentral for another idea* heh
