Well i fitted a set of coilovers on my soarer.
The feeling was great especially while cruising on flat roads and cornering. However, I keep getting noises in the rear when travelling over tiny speed hump stripes and rough roads. It sounds like thudding against wood.

I ended up setting up my boot with eggcarton foam but it was pointless.

Could it be the pillow top mount bearings which are getting on age? Thinking about replacing the top mounts with rubber ones if possible.

I certainly hope it isnt any of the rear bushes screwing up. Reckon its a labour intensive repair for those.

Appreciate any feedback!

Worn pillow ball mounts on Tein coilovers is very common. All four on a set I picked up were noisy, although the condition of the rest of the set was like new.

I managed to fit some factory strut tops on the front although a bit of modification is required due to the different diameter springs. On the rear I used another trick to stop the noise, take off the top nut and fit a rubber and a steel washer before putting the nut back on - essentially locking the ball into the housing.

You could try the washer trick on all of them to check whether it is the pillow balls making the noise.

New pillow ball mounts were NZ$125 each (just the pillow ball pieces not the whole strut top) plus fitting costs.

Thanks David!
I'll look into that option.

No problem, one other thing to eliminate from the equation is checking that the adjusting collars on the struts are tight.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.
